Chapter 440 Kill to End the Kill

Finished

Plunging into the beast swarm, Bloodfiend ran for his life. His sternum was shattered to powder, but he

ran anyway.

If he didn’t run, he was dead.

In one last, hazy moment, he turned to glance at Liam.

A flash of eerie blade–light cut through the air.

A head sailed skyward.

Bloodfiend was shaken to his core.

What an idiot.

The Skyreach Serpent lunged at Alan, plowing through everything in its path.

It didn’t matter how many beasts it crushed along the way.

The serpent charged toward Alan like it had lost its mind entirely.

Alan hovered above it all, suspended in the sky.

For one brief instant, he closed his eyes. When they opened again, both irises had turned a pure, luminous white.

A single, quiet syllable left his lips.

One slash.

A vast, boundless arc of blade energy fell upon the Skyreach Serpent’s skull.

Skin and muscle tore away on impact, exposing a massive gash.

The serpent was blasted backward.

Its agonized shriek echoed across the sky.

Alan’s eyes returned to normal.

A slight frown crossed his face

So it still wasn’t enough.

He stepped forward and vanished.

Liam was dead. Only one enemy remained.

And that one had disappeared a while agoprobably long gone by now, almost certainly at the Divine King level.

Finishe

Night.

Around the campfire, everyone was recovering from the day’s exertion.

Steven turned to Alan. “Based on what we’ve seen, someone is definitely waiting for us outside Orroux. And their primary target is you, Captain Greenwood.”

Alan nodded. “They want me to kill Alex. Once Alex is dead, his mother’s family will come for me. My father will step in to protect me.

“That puts both families at each other’s throats.

“Basically, they’re stirring the pot.

“I had the same suspicion a while ago.”

Steven nodded. “So, Captain Greenwood–if it actually came down to it, would you kill Alex?”

Steven watched Alan’s expression closely.

Alan nodded.

But Steven hadn’t sensed the slightest trace of killing intent.

That was strange..

He didn’t press the issue.

Alan looked at Steven.

‘I know you have questions. I’ll explain later.”

Steven nodded.

The night passed without another word.

Steven sank back into Beast Energy Conversion.

Without any spirit fruit to work with, his evolution speed had dropped back to a crawl.

Impatience wouldn’t help. He could only wait.

By morning, he checked his panel.

Not restating.

“Beast Energy Conversion”

“Conversion Progress: 100,061 +2,500/1,000,000”

“Divine Sigil Evolution Progress: 27.1%”

“Beast–Type Divine Sigil: SSS–rank Crimson–Eyed Heavenfang Sigil, Three–Sigil Lv. 26”

“Beast–Type Divine Sigil Evolution Progress: 26.8%”

“Spirit: 33,687 + 625 / 50,000”

Would history repeat itself?

He’d deal with it when the time came. If the Wind–Fire Sigil stalled, he’d focus on the beast–type Divine Sigil instead.

He needed it himself, too.

Steven looked toward Bianca.

She’d just opened her eyes at the same moment.

Nothing like the demon she became in combat.

Even now, something this small was enough to turn her cheeks pink.

And they’d been away from home for so long.

It had been ages since they’d fallen asleep in each other’s arms.

Bianca missed the feeling of curling up against Steven’s chest.

Once they reached Orroux, she was absolutely going to set aside one evening where they did absolutely nothing.

Just the two of them, making up for lost time.

But she couldn’t exactly say that out loud.

Steven noticed the shy look on her face.

He leaned in close to her ear and whispered, “Thinking something naughty?”

Bianca’s cheeks flushed scarlet, and she shot him an indignant glare, half tempted to clamp her hand over his mouth.

If the others weren’t around, she’d definitely make Steven pay for that, teasing him until he was the one squirming.

Steven rubbed his nose with a grin.

ľ

Speaking of which, Bianca, at this rate, you’ll hit Four–Sigil before we even get back to Orroux.”

Bianca thought about it. “Probably.”

Steven realized the problem. “If you’re Four–Sigil at the Awakened Tournament, you’d be fighting Three Sigil opponents. They wouldn’t stand a chance.”

Bianca laughed softly. “Then, I just won’t compete.”

Steven winced. “We already promised Mr. Reid.”

Bianca scratched her temple with one finger.

“But I can’t just not evolve.

Steven sighed. He hadn’t expected the evolution pace to be this fast
