Reborn: Apocalypse Ready. War Goddess by My Side novel Chapter 353

Chapter 353 Double It

A heavy thud cracked through the air, followed by a wet, tearing sound.

Benny coughed up a mouthful of crimson blood and went flying backward in an instant.

Agony tore through every inch of him.

He knew without question that he was no match for this kid.

There was no point even drawing on his sigil pattern power now. He’d already gotten a clear enough read on exactly what he was up against.

Still, something else caught his attention. Steven was gasping for breath, which meant he probably wasnt as strong as he looked, likely just a Three–Sigil Divine Adept at best.

That edge of his came entirely from the S–rank weapon and S–rank battle armor he carried.

Seeing his opening, Benny didn’t waste a second. He finally managed to put some distance between them.

Fighting through the pain of his wounds, he dove headfirst into a storm drain:

Steven closed in fast, but by the time he arrived, his target had already slipped away.

Olivia Vasquez’s voice crackled through his earpiece. “Why didn’t you finish him off?”

Steven stayed silent, careful not to give away too much.

He deployed a set of tracking sensors.

He made a show of heading down a false trail, while in truth, he never strayed far from where Benny had

vanished.

He also positioned himself somewhere with few witnesses around, patient enough to let them take the bait.

Meanwhile, down in the storm drain, Benny spat out another mouthful of blood.

“Boss, this kid’s strength can’t be past Three–Sigil. You want us to make our move?”

The leader’s expression turned grim.

“That little punk is broadcasting this whole thing live for the entire city to watch.”

Benny’s face darkened at that.

“Boss, a chance like this won’t come twice. Are we doing this or not?”

The leader’s expression stayed dark and unreadable. A risk this steep went against everything they usually stood for. If the military caught wind of this and came after them, things would turn ugly fast.

Right then, a message came through.

“Kill him now and the bounty doubles! Do it right in front of the whole city! The military won’t lift a finger!

Move now!”

The moment those words registered, the old rat made up his mind.

Double the bounty.

A heartbeat later, the matching deposit landed straight into his account.

He nearly choked at the sight of it.

That was several million divine crystals on the line, and if he kept that extra share entirely to himself, with no one else to split it with, he’d never have to worry about money again for a long, long while.

He was in.

Every last trace of hesitation drained right out of him. They’d promised the military wouldn’t touch this, so there was nothing left to do but finish it fast.

“Move out! Surround him, all of you! I’ll deliver the kill myself!”

In an instant, every rat hiding underground sprang into motion, charging straight toward where Steven stood waiting.

Steven remained exactly where he was, tucked into that quiet, secluded spot, and Olivia’s voice cut through his earpiece once more.

[Did those sewer rats really just give up that easily?]

Eric’s eyes carried a calm so cold it bordered on terrifying. The Read family had no intention of swallowing this insult quietly. A Divine Lord? That hardly meant anything. The Reads had one of their own too.

Not far behind Eric, an elderly figure sat in perfect stillness.

The old man finally spoke. “Go on, then. No one gets to push our family around.”

Connor’s expression lit up. “Yes. If those fools fail, I’ll finish this myself. I won’t tolerate this any longer, or I’m not fit to call myself a father!”

Eric gave a single, firm nod. “Capture his grandfather. Some debts simply have to be settled.”

Eric had already gone over this with his uncle. The two of them had spent considerable time working through one particular question.

Just how likely was it that the powerful middle–aged man who’d stepped in for Steven and his friends last time would actually risk everything to protect the kid again?

In the end, it hardly mattered anymore. He’d already brought in a Divine Lord to anchor their position. As long as that Divine Lord kept the real threat occupied, they could wipe out everyone else and reclaim every bit of ground they’d lost.

The Read family had never once swallowed a defeat this humiliating.

With blood debts staring them down now, sitting idle simply wasn’t an option. Otherwise, the Read name would become nothing but a punchline across the entire city.

That was exactly why he’d put out this bounty now, a deliberate test. He was practically begging that powerful protector to show himself so the Reads could settle this once and for all.

Back on the broadcast, those rats finally made their move.

They sprang out from several directions at once, surrounding Steven and closing in tight from every side.

The crowd watching the livestream kept swelling by the second. It had been ages since anyone had witnessed a struggle for life and death play out so openly.

Elsewhere, within military command, Jensen watched the same broadcast unfold.

Why do the Reads insist on throwing themselves into ruin?
