Chapter 269 The Asura Blooms

Alan’s gaze locked onto Hugo,

That one has to die, too,

He swung his saber without hesitation.

Hugo’s eyes flashed with terror.

“Alan! Don’t kill me! It wasn’t us! Go check the Celestial Core–we didn’t kill them! Look for yourself!”

Hugo was trying to buy time, to break Alan’s focus.

Alan’s only answer was the blade.

“Alan!”

Hugo let out a desperate roar.

A cloud of pitch–black smoke erupted in front of him.

But in that same heartbeat, Alan’s saber light was already descending on his body.

Alan saw Hugo’s form slam into the depths of the rubble.

He frowned slightly.

There was no time to confirm the kill.

A blow like that should have been impossible to survive.

Alan stomped the ground and launched himself skyward.

He rocketed upward, then came crashing down with a single devastating strike.

Surviving The blade landed among the last of the level 4 beasts that had been besieging the two surviving Divine Generals.

Both Generals had already given up hope.

But Alan’s saber erased an entire wave of level 4 beasts in one sweep.

Alan caught sight of Steven fighting like a madman below, surrounded by a wall of beast carcasses.

He shot toward the safehouses.

He was at the very end of his rope now, too.

He’d truly given everything he had.

Dragging his exhausted body through the air.

He landed on top of one of the safehouses.

“Captain Greenwood!

“Captain Greenwood!”

Peter and the others felt their hearts seize. They all knew the Captain had reached his limit.

Alan detonated all four Sigils.

One final strike,

His voice came out barely above a whisper. “Steven, Edric–take everyone home.”

Tears spilled from every eye.

They were all going home together.

Alan hovered in midair, the ring–hilt saber held level before his eyes.

His eyes snapped open. Darknight Asura–one last bloom.

Infinite blade–light blotted out the sky.

Nobody could count how many there were.

The sky was nothing but steel. Thousands upon thousands of slashes.

Steven looked up at Alan.

Through his Eye of Insight, he could see that Alan’s life force had been drained to the dregs. After this strike, there would be nothing left.

Alan hovered above the safehouses.

Cold light blazed in his eyes.

“Kill.”

The blade–light erupted.

It was like a lotus of pure steel blooming in a sea of blood.

The Asura bloomed.

For a mile in every direction, the heavens rained death.

Blood blossomed everywhere.

It was a vision of purgatory on earth.

It shook every soul that witnessed it.

When the Asura bloomed, everything died.

“We survived.”

Steven laid Alan gently on the ground and deactivated Scorchblood Ignition.

His legs gave out instantly, and he dropped to the ground on his backside.

Peter collapsed beside him, every muscle limp.

“You okay?”

Steven was flat on his back, gasping. He shook his head.

“Fine. Everyone, rest. Now.”

His beast sigil was still frantically absorbing the level 4 beast crystal in his chest plate.

He needed to replenish as fast as possible.

“Uriah and Tank…” Peter couldn’t bring himself to finish.

Steven asked, “They’re not dead, are they?”

Peter shook his head.

“Then, we’re taking them home.”

Peter nodded.

Olivia was cradling Cara, whose injuries had been stabilized but who was ghastly pale.

The healers–Darlene included–had no power left. All the critical wounds were being held together by the field tech.

Cara’s face was as white as paper.

“Can you… take me to see him? I’m scared I won’t make it back…”

Olivia’s eyes were brimming.

“Why did you have to play hero?”

Cara managed a weak, bloodless smile. “He’s been through so much pain already. If you died, it would destroy him…”

Cara coughed up blood and smiled. “Between the two of us, one of us had to stay with him. He’s had it so hard, all these years…

Olivia’s tears fell like rain.
