There was no taking this back now.

Steven stood there without a shred of fear in his body.
Bianca stared at his back like she couldn’t quite believe what she was seeing.
Lilliana had gone completely still too. She couldn’t believe he actually dared to do this.
And in that moment, if she was being honest with herself, Steven had genuinely shaken something loose in her.
The energy rolling off him right now was something she’d never felt from anyone else before. It pulled at her in a way she didn’t have words for yet.
She found herself actually looking at him, truly looking, for the first time.
Was this who he really was underneath everything?
Lilliana felt something stir in her chest that she hadn’t expected. Something that felt dangerously close to admiration.
Cassandra’s face had twisted into something ugly and venomous. “Sir, are you seeing this? He’s completely out of control!
“A student like this has no place at this high school!
“Take him down! If we let troublemakers like him walk away without consequences, everyone will say this school can’t maintain discipline!”
The Dean of Students‘ expression had gone as dark and flat as still water before a storm.
“The absolute audacity!
“He’s dragging the school’s name straight through the mud!
“I will not allow you to do as you please any longer!”
The Dean moved to act.
And then his arm gave a faint, buzzing vibration.
He glanced down at it.
The principal was calling.

He answered, and a voice poured into his ear that only he could hear.
“Have you completely lost your mind? A student this exceptional, and you want to do what exactly? Bully him in front of the whole school? Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough?
“If that boy loses so much as a hair, clear out your office. I mean it.”
The Dean went rigid like he’d touched a live wire.
The color drained from his face in an instant.
The principal was shielding this student personally.
Who exactly is this kid?
A cold sweat broke across every inch of him at once.
He’d nearly destroyed his own career without even realizing it.
He hadn’t crossed a line he couldn’t come back from. Not yet. He was still okay.
He looked at Steven, and something like genuine dread crept into his chest.
If the principal could call just to help him…
This student wasn’t someone he could touch. Not even close.
And now he was stuck right in the middle of it with no clear way out.
Timothy and Cassandra were still watching with barely contained excitement, absolutely certain that Steven was about to face the full weight of the Dean’s authority.
The students around them were shaking their heads quietly. Steven had pushed too hard.
Expulsion was practically a given at this point.
Bianca’s face was still wet with tears, her worry written openly across every feature.
Nelson looked like he was barely holding himself together.
But Steven himself stood perfectly calm. Even if things were about to go badly for him, he wasn’t backing down.
He refused to believe this was how it ended.
But the Dean had gone silent.

What just happened?
Wait. Hold on. What just happened?

“Hold on.”
The Dean’s feet stopped dead. “Steven, is there something else?”
Steven didn’t know what had flipped the switch so completely.
But something had, and something had changed the entire equation.

He smiled. “Sir, I trust you’ll handle this properly. This situation wasn’t started by me, after all.”
The Dean nodded with the smile of a man who was very uncomfortable and working very hard not to show it. “Absolutely. I’m looking into it right now.”
Steven gave a pleasant nod. “I appreciate that, sir.”
“Of course, of course.” The Dean steered a dazed and fuming Cassandra away from the crowd without looking back.
Cassandra looked like she was about to ignite.
The students left behind stared after them in stunned, vibrating silence.
The Dean of Students had practically bowed to Steven.
Does that mean Steven’s connections run deeper than even Timothy’s?
The crowd slowly began to break apart and drift away.
Timothy stood in the middle of it looking like he’d bitten into something rotten.
He fixed Steven with a look of pure, burning resentment.
That’s it? That’s how this ends?
What about the beating I’d taken today? No one’s going to do anything about it?
This was a humiliation. He wasn’t letting this go.
When the dust finally settled, Nelson and Bianca fell in beside Steven, words of praise already rushing out of them.
But there was one person who wasn’t saying anything at all. She just kept her Steven.
