Chapter 166 The Beast Tide Arrives
After saying that, Alan turited and walked into the Divine Barrier.
The other squad members heard the cold tone in his voice and could barely hold back their laughter. Two rookies actually trying to bargain with the captain?
Even Peter, who was still recovering inside the house, looked delighted after hearing it.
Good. Somebody finally put that brat in his place.
Alan’s voice came through the comms. “Everyone take your positions. Prepare for battle!”
In an instant, the mood entirely changed. The joking expressions vanished from every face.
“Yes, captain!”
“Yes, captain!”
“Yes, captain!”

Even Steven’s aura changed sharply. Fiona clearly felt the killing intent coming off him.
Her pupils tightened slightly.
This Steven felt nothing like the lazy, carefree guy back at the academy.
Right now, he looked like a battle–hardened warrior.
Steven turned and stepped into the Divine Barrier.
A voice suddenly came through Fiona’s earpiece, freezing her in place.
“Fiona?”
She snapped back to attention. “Yes!”
Then she quickly followed him inside.
Steven stood beside the barrier stake with a silver spear in hand. His eyes were cold and emotionless
Light flashed faintly across his armor, making his tall figure look even more imposing
Fiona realized something.
Maybe she was finally seeing the real Steven.
The version at the academy had only been an act
Fiona looked the part too. She wore armor herself, with only half her face exposed. A saber rested in het

hand.
Neither of them spoke.
Olivia’s voice came through the comms again.
“The beast horde will reach ground level in three minutes. Everyone prepare yourselves!”
Every member was already in position.
The Blooddrinkers guarded the ground line. Long–range fighters took the rooftops. Others stood behind the barrier stakes, ready for close combat.
Then suddenly, the sky darkened.
Heavy storm clouds gathered above Rowenville. Rain was coming soon.
That wasn’t good news.
But nobody had time to care about the weather anymore.
Olivia continued reporting.
“Armored Burrow Beasts and Iron Devourer Ants are leading the charge. Behind them are Bloodfang Rats, Man–Faced Scorpions, and Ghostface Spiders.”
Everyone’s expressions grew heavy.
The only positive news was that these were still low–level beasts.
But the next second-“Carrion Beast detected!”
Everyone’s face changed instantly.
A Carrion Beast!
That thing was already considered a mid–level beast.
Extremely savage. It moved on four limbs with a massive tail dragging behind it. Its body stayed low to the ground like a giant reptile.
Its head was long and narrow, with four eyes and razor–sharp fangs. Worst of all, it was incredibly swift
Its hide was tough enough already, but the real problem was its healing ability. Once injured or exhausted.
A nightmare to deal with.

“Copy!”
“Copy!”
Steven tightened his grip on the spear. This was going to be a brutal fight
Fiona glanced at him, still unconvinced deep down.
She was a level 22 Three–Sigil Divine Adept. Why would she need a One–Sigil Awakened to lead her
Was she really worse than him?

Sure, his spear skills were impressive.
But she refused to lose.
She would kill more beasts than Steven tonight.
A moment later, a group of beasts charged down the street ahead of them.
More than a dozen of them.
All level 1.
Steven did not hesitate for even a second.
He burst forward instantly.
At almost the same time, Fiona rushed out as well.
One man. One woman. A spear and a saber.
They charged straight into the beast horde.
Steven’s spear tore through the battlefield like a crashing wave, unstoppable and fierce.
The silver spear thrust forward violently and pierced through a beast that had lunged toward him.
In Steven’s hands, the spear unleashed terrifying killing power.
