Hearing the knock, Damian's heart thudded in panic, fearing Nathan was coming to separate them.
He also worried Nathan might scold him for sneaking into Scarlett's room.
As his mind raced, Nathan's voice called out from outside, "Scarlett, asleep yet?"
Looking up at Damian, Scarlett called back, "Not yet!"
Nathan said, "Open up for a second; I've got something for you."
Scarlett replied, "Got it, hold on!"
Turning to Damian, she pointed toward the bathroom, "Quick, step inside—I'll say you're using my shower."
Hearing this, Damian darted straight into the bathroom and flipped the tap on.
Scarlett paused a beat before opening the bedroom door.
Nathan stood in the doorway, scanning the room briefly, and handed over a set of pajamas when he didn't see Damian, "Here are my pajamas—give them to Damian so he can change."
Seeing her brother glance around, Scarlett explained hastily, "Nathan, Damian's just borrowing my bathroom for a shower; he'll be out in a second."
Nathan offered a indifferent response, "Uh-huh."
Sweeping his gaze across the room again, he noticed the blanket spread out on the couch and asked in surprise, "You two planning to sleep apart?"
Without thinking, Scarlett answered blithely, "Yeah, or he can take the guest room."
But in the next breath, Nathan said nonchalantly, "Just share the bed."
Scarlett blinked in confusion, "Huh?"
Nathan teased casually, "What, aren't you worried he'll catch a cold on the couch?"
Scarlett stammered, "Nathan, he..."
She was torn between turning it down or accepting it.
Just then, the bathroom door popped open, and Damian stepped out, toweling his hair as he smiled at Nathan, "Thanks, Nathan! I'll sleep right next to Scarlett tonight."
Nathan nodded, adding, "Pajamas are right there; make do with those. Get some rest—Violet and I are turning in too."
Damian replied, "Goodnight, Nathan!"
Without another word, Nathan turned and walked back to his room.
