The moment she heard this, all her scattered thoughts vanished at once. She chided him softly. "Ruth is here? Why didn't you wake me up?"

She was eager to leave a good impression on Ruth. It was nearly noon, and she was still in bed—something no elder would take well.

Seeing how concerned she was about Ruth's opinion, Damian pressed his lips together. "I texted her to explain. There's no need to worry."

Scarlett grew even more uneasy. "What exactly did you say? Did you tell her we stayed in bed the whole night doing nothing but that?"

Damian let out a laugh at her words. "I didn't put it quite so bluntly."

Helpless, Scarlett gave in and pressed further. "Then what did you say?"

Damian sat up and leaned against the headboard. His bare upper body was partially exposed, his defined chest peeking out from under the covers, and prominent veins along his arms exuded raw masculine charm.

He smiled at her. "I told her, when a parched land finally meets rain, one naturally wants to drink their fill."

Scarlett instantly caught the hidden meaning behind his metaphor. He had shouldered all the blame for their indulgence day and night.

She froze for a moment, looking uneasy. "I was just as much a part of it. You shouldn't take everything upon yourself."

She had never turned him away, so it was unfair for him to bear it all alone.

Damian chuckled warmly. "Just hearing you say that is enough. As long as you're happy, I don't mind anything."

Scarlett dropped the subject. After a short pause, she asked curiously, "Why has Ruth come over again?"

"She's making us oatmeal in the kitchen," Damian replied. "She also said she has a gift for you."

The further they went, the more anxious Scarlett became. Will Ruth think I'm idle and lazy for staying in bed till nearly noon?
