No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 810

It took him a long moment to lift his hand, rubbing Scarlett's back gently and murmuring softly, "What is it?"

Scarlett spoke in a hoarse, broken tone amid quiet sobs. "Damian, Nolan and I are both doctors. We fully grasp how severe his illness is and what chemo entails. I get why he refuses treatment, and your harsh words must've stung him like sharp thorns. I know you only meant well for him, but I'm totally stuck on what to do right now."

Her shoulders trembled as she talked.

Damian could feel all her bottled-up pain. He stroked the top of her hair with his large palm and reassured her. "I already had Brett contact doctors. I also told all my employees to come get tested for a match. I know the odds might still be slim, but no matter what, we have to try."

Scarlett buried her face against his chest and sniffled out her thanks. "Thank you, Damian."

Damian lowered his head and rested his jaw atop her hair. "I'm yours to command whenever you need me; no need to thank me ever."

Wrapped in his embrace, Scarlett caught a faint mix of his body wash and cigarette smoke drifting off his frame.

The unexpected blend smelled oddly comforting, and his words settled a quiet sense of calm deep inside her.

Maybe there really was a flicker of hope left.

...

It was half past eight in the evening at Ravenshade Villa. Sabrina curled up on the living room sofa, browsing online for delicate wedding trinkets.

She'd browsed for over an hour, her eyes growing strained as she struggled to settle on a single design.

A faint rustle from the front door pulled her attention. She turned just in time to spot Vincent pushing open the entrance curtain and stepping inside.

Setting her phone aside right away, Sabrina stood and walked toward him.

Snow dusted every inch of his coat, sparking her curiosity. "It's snowing so heavily out there. Why didn't you bring an umbrella?"

Vincent kicked off his shoes while answering. "I had a little to drink and went for a walk. Never expecting the snow to pick up this bad."

Sabrina grabbed a clean towel from the wall rack and handed it over. "Here, dry off first."

"Thanks," Vincent said as he took the towel.

Right after his reply, Sabrina's phone resting on the coffee table started ringing.

Sabrina locked her phone and faced him. "That was Pro. Newman. He said Nolan got diagnosed with leukemia; he's reaching out to everyone he knows to get tested for a potential marrow match."

Vincent looked mildly surprised but replied with total indifference. "Oh."

Used to his cold demeanor, Sabrina wasn't caught off guard by his apathy. "He's still our senior from school. The chances are low, but I'm going to get tested anyway."

Vincent shrugged carelessly. "It's your call entirely."

On impulse, Sabrina blurted out a question. "What about you? Will you go for the test too?"

A barely noticeable pause crossed Vincent's features before he shook his head firmly. "His troubles have nothing to do with me; I've no reason to get screened."

She'd anticipated this response. "Fair enough. Even the immediate family rarely matches. It's not like it'd be that much of a coincidence that the one person who matches him would be you."

Vincent hung the towel back on its rack and hummed flatly. "Mm-hmm."

Seeing his complete lack of interest, Sabrina dropped the subject of Nolan entirely.
