No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 809

At the hospital's hematology inpatient unit, before they even reached Nolan's room, his attending doctor stopped them. They were brought into the doctor's office.

Frowning, the doctor said, "Mr. Huntley refuses to cooperate with treatment and won't go through chemotherapy."

Every person in the room wore a troubled look upon hearing the news.

After leaving the office, the group waited outside to collect their thoughts before heading into the ward.

Nolan spotted them filing in with heavy, somber expressions and cracked a dry joke right away. "My attending doctor ran off to tattle on me, didn't he?"

His face was ashen and pale, yet he still found the energy to tease his visitors.

But neither Scarlett nor Thomas could muster a smile in response.

Damian chose not to enter the room at all, standing guard silently out in the hallway by the doorway.

A lengthy silence dragged on until Scarlett broke it. "Nolan, how are you ever going to get better if you refuse proper medical treatment?"

Nolan's damp eyes locked onto Scarlett, his tone earnest and sincere. "I only want to leave this world whole and unchanged. We're both medical professionals; we know exactly what chemotherapy does to a person's body."

Scarlett fell speechless, fully aware of the brutal reality behind his words.

They both understood chemotherapy's harsh toll. Once the chemo drugs entered his bloodstream, his physical condition would deteriorate rapidly before their very eyes.

Without treatment, however, he still appeared relatively healthy for the time being.

Following another long pause, Scarlett tried to reason with him tentatively. "But Nolan, without chemo, we—"

Thomas cut her off mid-sentence. "Scarlett, leave it be. We need to respect his final wishes."

Scarlett froze, unwilling to concede and ready to argue further.

Before she could speak again, Nolan turned toward Thomas. "Thank you, Pro. Newman."

Thomas avoided meeting Nolan's gaze, standing quietly for a moment before shifting to face Scarlett. "Keep him company and talk for a while. I'm heading out to make a couple phone calls."

Scarlett nodded without extra questions. "Alright."

Once Thomas exited the ward, the spacious hospital room was left with only Scarlett and Nolan.

Scarlett pulled a chair beside the hospital bed, tilting her head to gaze at him. "Nolan, you've lost so much weight."

She turned and walked out of the ward immediately, forcing Damian to trail after her reluctantly.

Scarlett marched ahead with quick, angry strides. Damian followed closely behind, matching her pace carefully without speeding ahead or falling too far behind.

She pushed open the fire door leading to the stairwell and whirled around to confront him, frustration thick in her tone. "What was that outburst for? Why'd you snap at him like that?"

Damian had already realized his mistake mid-walk; laying into a gravely ill Nolan would only worsen an already fragile situation.

He dropped his gaze, speaking quietly. "I just couldn't stand watching you cry, so I lost my temper and spoke too harshly."

Scarlett's nose stung, fresh tears brimming instantly. She twisted her head away to hide her tear-streaked face from his sight.

Damian stared at her as a tear rolled down her cheek, growing anxious. "He's the one refusing to take care of himself and ignore medical advice. Don't cry over him."

He lifted a hand, intending to wipe away her falling tears.

Unexpectedly, Scarlett threw herself straight into his chest and wrapped both arms tightly around his waist.

Damian froze completely, his mind going blank as all coherent thought slipped away.
