No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 789

Zachary kept his gaze fixed away, quickly turning his head to the side without daring to glance over at all.

Claire caught every small movement he made, and a faint twinge of guilt tugged at her heart.

Zachary was a genuinely decent guy, but he knew what Elias had done to her.

That was exactly why Claire could never bring herself to give him a shot.

She couldn't hand over her future to a man who held her most painful secrets.

What if he threw those harsh memories back in her face somewhere down the line? The thought alone terrified her enough to drive her to the brink of breakdown.

While Claire got lost in tangled worries, Damian stepped up behind Scarlett and reached to pull off her cover-up, copying Zachary's earlier gesture with Claire.

Scarlett's whole body stiffened, her voice trembling softly. "I-I can take it off myself."

Spotting her obvious bashfulness, Damian pulled his hands back and lowered his tone gently. "Alright, go ahead then."

Scarlett gave a quiet hum and slipped out of the outer wrap by herself.

Once the cover-up fell away, her pink blossom-styled swimsuit came into full view, the pastel shade complementing her skin tone perfectly.

She had an exquisite figure with barely an ounce of extra weight around her waist.

The sight sent unbidden inappropriate thoughts racing through Damian's mind. He fought hard to keep his imagination in check, yet all self-control vanished whenever he was around Scarlett.

Noticing his sudden silence, Scarlett twisted around to look at him curiously. "What's wrong?"

Her hair was loosely twisted into a messy, casual bun, the unkempt style carrying a unique, soft charm.

Damian darted his eyes elsewhere the second their gazes met and answered flatly, "Nothing at all."

He tried putting on a detached front, but the faint shake in his voice easily gave away his real emotions.

Scarlett chose not to press further and stretched out one hand toward him. "My leg still aches a little. Could you keep an eye on Eric and Clara for me later?"

Damian instantly offered up his arm, letting her rest her palm atop his forearm. "Anything you ask of me, I'll happily do."

Supported by Damian's steady arm, Scarlett stepped slowly down into the warm pool water.

He added louder for Claire's ears alone, "If he dies, he dies. It's not like his life is worth much anyway."

It was a blatant line crafted to get a reaction from Claire, yet she heard every single word and remained completely impassive without a single reply.

With Zachary out of sight, the pool settled into quiet stillness.

Several minutes ticked by before Felix frowned and spoke up in concern. "Zachary's gone quiet all of a sudden. Could something have happened to him?"

Claire saw straight through Damian and Felix's coordinated act, yet anxiety crept into her mind despite herself, worrying Zachary might genuinely run into trouble.

Seeing uncertainty flicker across her features, Damian stoked her unease further. "He survived a near-drowning once before. Surely he's not clumsy enough to get into trouble a second time."

Felix chimed in to back his scheme. "That's true enough, and it's only been a few minutes since he left."

Claire could no longer sit calmly in the water. She pushed herself to her feet and said sharply. "Quit putting on this fake show. Fine, I'll go teach him how to swim."

Damian grinned in satisfaction. "I really appreciate you stepping up, Ms. Wright."

Glancing over at Eric and Clara splashing and laughing nonstop nearby, Felix added another supportive remark. "With you as his instructor, Zachary will master swimming in just a handful of days."
