No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 776

In the end, he pulled her gently into his arms at last, resting his jaw atop her hair. "I'm sorry. I lost it."

Scarlett slumped weakly against Damian's chest. Standing five feet six, her head only reached his sternum. She was by no means short, yet tucked in his embrace, she looked no bigger than a tiny decorative charm.

She didn't push him away or reply to his apology.

Her silence made Damian grow restless. He eased back slightly, locked his gaze onto hers, and asked softly, "Are you upset with me?"

Scarlett shook her head. "Nope."

Her eyes drifted away, too nervous to meet his stare.

Just moments earlier, amid their heated closeness, she'd nearly given in to him, forced to admit he easily stoked the fire inside her, even if she could never allow anything between them.

When she kept avoiding his eyes, Damian bent down until their gazes lined up. "Why won't you look at me?"

Scarlett finally lifted her head. Her cheeks burned bright crimson, her lips swollen from their earlier kiss.

Damian noticed. His hand rose on its own and cupped her cheek. His thumb brushed over her lips as he asked, "Did you like it?"

Scarlett swatted his hand away sharply, face dark despite her flushed skin. "I didn't."

Amused by her stubborn denial, Damian didn't get mad and leaned down to kiss her again.

If she refused to own up to how he affected her, he'd keep kissing her until she did.

Right as he dipped forward, Scarlett pressed her palms against his chest, voice shaky and urgent. "Damian, Nolan was diagnosed."

The second she said it, Damian's tall body went rigid.

He stared at her, shock and disbelief filling his eyes. "What?"

Scarlett repeated it, "He was diagnosed. So I don't have time to play child's play with you here. I need to go get tested for a match."

As she spoke, she pushed at him. "Move."

Damian stepped aside but caught her wrist before she could exit the fire door, pulling her back snug into his hold. He fixed her with a sincere stare. "You want him to pull through that badly?"

Scarlett tilted her chin up without hesitation. "Yes."

A faint, soft smile tugged at Damian's mouth. "Fine then. I'll sign up for the compatibility test too. Zachary, Felix, and my mom will all come get screened as well."

Damian stared into her deep eyes and teased, "You're hopeless sometimes."

She rolled her eyes. "You're ridiculous."

Ignoring her jab, he turned serious after a short pause. "Felix told me Eric's been asking about you nonstop."

Scarlett sighed at the mention of Eric. "It's been far too long since I've seen him."

Seeing her look a little down too, Damian quickly said, "Then come along this weekend. We'll hit a natural hot spring resort. Bring Ms. Wright along too."

Scarlett hesitated before turning him down flat. "I can't. I've got plans all weekend."

She'd recently lost her hospital job and waited to start graduate school. Though her schedule seemed open on the surface, all her spare time revolved around sorting out Nolan's illness; she'd already considered reaching out to her university for help if no matching donor turned up.

With all that, there was no way she had time for hot springs.

Damian instantly caught on that her refusal stemmed from worrying over Nolan.

So he told her seriously, "Nolan's treatment can't be rushed. I'll reach out to all my contacts to sign up for donor testing. Eric really misses you. Bring Clara with you, and we'll only stay for the afternoon."
