After hearing that, Scarlett finally stood. "Alright. Get some rest, then. I'm heading back."
Nolan smiled lightly.
"Okay."
As Scarlett walked out of the room, Nolan's eyes followed her the entire way.
He understood everything.
Even though she had come to see him, her heart was somewhere else entirely.
And that somewhere was Damian.
By the time Scarlett got out of the rideshare in front of Theron Manor, she immediately texted Damian.
"I'm home."
His reply came seconds later.
"Then get some sleep."
Scarlett stared at the screen for a moment before typing again.
"But... are you okay?"
Damian's answer was short. "I'm fine."
Even so, Scarlett still couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
Back upstairs in her bedroom, she sat holding her phone for a long while before finally deciding to video call him.
Damian answered instantly.
The moment the screen connected, Scarlett saw that he was still sitting in his office.
As soon as he saw her face, a grin spread across his own.
"What's this? Worried I'm out somewhere flirting with other women?"
His voice still carried that same careless, teasing edge, but Scarlett ignored the joke completely.
"You're still working?"
"Just finishing a few things."
"Did you eat dinner?"
Damian lied smoothly. "Yeah."
But the slight hesitation in his answer gave him away immediately. Scarlett could already tell he probably hadn't eaten at all.
Just then, someone knocked outside his office.
Damian glanced toward the door before looking back at the screen.
"It's late, sweetheart. Be good and get some sleep, okay?"
Scarlett shook her head softly.
"I want to stay with you."
The simple sentence hit Damian so suddenly that his heartbeat stumbled hard in his chest.
Off camera, he swallowed against the unexpected tightness in his throat.
But when he leaned back into frame, he was already wearing that same lazy grin again.
Scarlett nodded obediently and slipped under the covers.
Just seeing him there eased the uneasy feeling in her chest.
After settling in, she propped the phone beside her pillow so that one glance was enough to see him, and he could still clearly see her too.
Once everything was set, Scarlett closed her eyes.
With Damian quietly keeping her company, she relaxed much faster than usual and soon drifted to sleep.
On the other side of the call, Damian instinctively looked toward the phone screen the moment he finished his work.
Scarlett was sleeping facing the camera, peaceful and soft in a way that immediately gentled his expression.
Even through the screen, he could almost imagine the softness of her skin and the faint scent of shampoo lingering in her hair.
A quiet smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Just then, another knock sounded outside the office.
Damian glanced toward the door before saying calmly, "Come in."
Brett entered carrying a stack of documents and placed them on the desk.
"Mr. Langley, this just came in from our source inside Vincent's company."
Damian picked up the files and frowned slightly.
Normally, with how careful he was, he wouldn't fully trust information this easily, not even from his own people.
But tonight felt different.
Scarlett was still sleeping quietly on his phone screen, and more than anything, Damian wanted to clear every obstacle standing in her way.
