Sean let out a cold scoff before carrying his medical case straight into Theron Manor.
Damian got out of the car as well and moved to Scarlett's other side while Violet carefully helped her walk inside. Damian followed quietly behind them the entire way.
The Theron family hadn't explicitly invited him in, but no one stopped him either, and to Damian, that was permission enough.
By the time they entered the house, Diana, Henry, and Nathan were already waiting in the living room. Nathan immediately stood and greeted Sean with a polite smile.
"Sean, thanks for coming all the way out tonight."
Sean's expression stayed distant and cool as he replied, "I'm only here because someone asked me to."
The moment he finished speaking, he turned toward Scarlett without another word. "Head upstairs. I need to take another look at your leg."
Because Scarlett hadn't chosen Nolan in the end, Sean still carried some resentment toward her, and Scarlett knew it perfectly well. Not only did she avoid showing the slightest discomfort at his attitude, she answered him gently instead.
"Okay."
Then she headed upstairs.
Damian followed behind them, but while climbing the stairs, he shot Sean a dark, hostile look from the side. Sean ignored him completely from beginning to end, acting as though Damian didn't even exist.
Once upstairs, Scarlett rolled up her pant leg while Sean set the medical case on the bedside table. After putting on gloves, he carefully checked the injury on her leg and examined how well it had healed.
When he finished, he removed the disposable gloves, folded them neatly, and dropped them into a small yellow medical waste container nearby before packing everything back into his case.
Only after closing the case did he finally look at Scarlett again.
"Your recovery isn't going very well," he said coldly. "You need more rest, less stress, and no sleeping together for now."
Scarlett understood everything before that last sentence. As a doctor herself, she knew exactly what he meant about rest and recovery, but the final warning still caught her off guard.
Her injury was on her leg, not anything else. Realistically, being intimate wouldn't necessarily affect her recovery if they were careful, so hearing Sean specifically forbid it made her pause.
Still, she knew he wasn't really saying it for medical reasons, and since the comment itself wasn't worth arguing over, she let it go.
After a brief silence, she nodded lightly.
"Thanks, Sean. I understand."
The response seemed to choke Sean for a second.
"You..."
Only then did Scarlett suddenly realize Sean had probably said that on purpose because of Nolan.
She wasn't angry. Instead, she looked at him quietly and asked, "How's he doing?"
Sean's gaze immediately darkened.
"You want the truth?"
Scarlett nodded.
Then he reached down to grab his case.
Knowing he was about to leave, Scarlett quickly spoke up.
"Sean, thank you for coming tonight."
As for whether she would actually go see Nolan, she avoided answering directly.
Sean paused briefly at the doorway but never turned around. He only let out another cold scoff before walking out of the room.
Seeing that, Damian immediately turned toward Scarlett.
"I'll walk him out."
"Damian, I..."
Before she could finish, Damian cut her off.
"This is between me and him. Don't worry about it."
Scarlett fell silent after that and didn't say anything else.
By the time Damian came downstairs, the Theron family had already gathered around Sean asking about Scarlett's condition. Sean repeated the same explanation he had given upstairs. When they invited him to stay for dinner, he refused, saying he still had things to do.
Only after Sean walked toward the front door did Damian come down the stairs and say, "I'll walk Sean out."
