When Noelle saw Laura, she raised an eyebrow slightly. What was Laura doing here? Who leaked the information?
Emma was equally surprised to see Laura. Ever since Ruth had been sentenced to life imprisonment, she hadn't met anyone from the Merlocks and had no intention of doing so again.
The atmosphere immediately turned tense and awkward.
Seeing Noelle and Emma, Laura walked over to the latter with a radiant smile on her face. "Are you feeling better, Mrs. Greene? I've been so busy with work and couldn't visit you in the hospital. I hope you're not mad about it, are you?"
Emma was deeply unsettled by Laura's overly enthusiastic and unaffected demeanor, as if nothing ever happened. The latter might be able to pretend the past didn't exist, but she couldn't.
She took a step back to keep a distance from Laura and coldly replied, "We're not close enough for you to be visiting me in the hospital, Ms. Merlock."
"Are you still mad at me, Mrs. Greene? I was young and foolish, but after leaving my mom, I've come to realize how wrong I've been. I regret it all now."
Tears welled up in Laura's eyes as she continued, "Everyone here watched me grow up. I did act immaturely, but I've come to my senses. From now on, I'll live for myself and won't blindly follow my mom again."
One of the ladies spoke up. "That's right. Laura grew up under our care. She's come to her senses now, so let's not hold past grudges."
Another added, "Right. What happened to the Merlocks had little to do with Laura, after all."
After they spoke, the rest of the ladies exchanged glances but remained silent.
Noelle couldn't stand it anymore and sneered. "What do you mean it had nothing to do with Laura? Back when Mrs. Greene needed a kidney transplant, Laura got engaged to Bradley and had him sabotage the donor."
