Noelle looked up and met Cedric's gaze. He was probably referring to when she said she envied Mia for having a boyfriend who could cook.
Though their relationship wasn't public yet, Noelle figured it was official by now. She hadn't expected Cedric to go and learn to cook. That was surprising.
Cedric pinched her cheek. "Do you think I couldn't do it?"
"It's not that. But you're usually so busy. Wouldn't cooking be a waste of time?" She had worked at Maple Enterprise for a while and knew how intense the workload could get. There was just no time for chores when work came in.
Honestly, she was perfectly fine with takeout and never saw a problem with it.
Cedric turned around. "Go wait at the table."
Seeing that he didn't want to talk further, Noelle simply went over and sat down at the dining table.
She could cook, too. Back then, she had learned each of her brothers' favorite dishes to please them. But in the end, all that effort had gone to waste.
Soon, breakfast was served.
Cedric couldn't make anything too complicated yet. He looked frustrated. Cooking was not as simple as he had imagined.
It was just like conducting experiments and required attention to detail at every step. Still, it wasn't impossible with time and practice.
Noelle took a bite of the fried egg. "It's pretty good."
Cedric sat down beside her and huffed. "I told you it wasn't that hard."
Noelle smiled. He was even feeling smug about it now. After breakfast, Cedric asked, "Are you free to go back today?"
"Yes, I have no classes this weekend." Noelle turned to him. "What about you?"
Frank replied, "I was planning to arrange a funeral for Xenia. But the hospital told me her body was taken away by her mother."
"What?" Noelle tightened her grip on the phone. "They haven't found her mother?"
"There's no trace of her, and the body's gone too. I'm not worried about the body. I'm more concerned about how strange it is that her mother suddenly showed up and took it away.
"It's like she was afraid we'd do something to it." Frank had a bad feeling, which was why he called immediately.
Noelle hadn't expected that mysterious woman to suddenly show up and secretly take the body, either. "Maybe she is worried we'd do something to the corpse? People like them always think others are just like them."
Frank sighed. "Still, Noelle, I'm worried Xenia's mother might seek revenge. People like them won't just back down quietly. She's lurking in the shadows. We'll never see it coming."
Noelle groaned. "Now what?"
