My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 86

Cedric leaned casually against the wall, hands stuffed into his pockets. "Are you aware that Lucian has a childhood sweetheart?"

Seraphina paused for a split second before answering blandly, "I didn't know, and I have no interest in finding out."

"Is that right?" Cedric chuckled. "Her name is Melody Monroe. She's the daughter of a close family friend, and they grew up together. The two families were practically arranging a marriage before she moved overseas, which put things on hold."

Her heart gave a sudden, painful lurch, though she kept her expression completely neutral.

"Why are you telling me this?" she asked.

It was completely unprompted and utterly bizarre.

Cedric shrugged. "No reason. Just thought you had the right to know. After all, Melody is coming back very soon."

Seraphina looked at him, her gaze unflinching. "Thanks for the heads-up. But whatever is going on between me and Lucian is none of your concern."

With that, she turned and walked toward the restroom.

Watching her walk away, Cedric flashed a dark, meaningful smirk.

...

Inside the restroom, Seraphina stood at the sink, staring blankly at her reflection.

*Mom, is that guy telling the truth? Does Dad really have a childhood sweetheart?* Little Bean whispered anxiously.

She took a deep breath. *I don't know. But whether it's true or not, it has nothing to do with us.*

*But...* Little Bean worried.

He absolutely refused to let anyone sabotage his parents' relationship.

This so-called sweetheart could go jump off a cliff for all he cared.

Seraphina cut his thoughts off. *Your father and I are in a marriage of convenience. We each get what we need. If he has a childhood sweetheart or an unforgettable first love, it's not my business.*

Despite her rational words, an inexplicable tightness gripped her chest.

Shaking her head to dispel the messy thoughts, she touched up her makeup and exited the restroom.

Just as she rounded the corner, she slammed right into someone.

He froze.

"My lawyers will handle any patent discussions with your legal department. As for renewing the contract..." She paused deliberately. "That's never going to happen."

With that, she brushed past him and walked away without looking back.

Rooted to the spot, he stared after her, his hands clenching into fists.

She had changed.

The old Seraphina would never have spoken to him in such a hostile tone.

Back then, she had always been gentle and compliant, agreeing with everything he said and never once talking back.

But now...

An indescribable sense of hollow regret surged in his chest, making him feel like he had carelessly thrown away something truly precious.

And his miserable, longing expression was witnessed perfectly by Sienna Simmons, who was watching from afar.
