My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 58

"Mrs. Langford?" the middle-aged man called out tentatively. "My name is Zane, Zane Zacharias. You might not know me, but I've admired you for a very long time."

He rubbed his hands together, flashing a sleazy grin that made his features contort.

Seraphina didn't react.

Emboldened, Zane took a few steps closer. Staring down at her on the bed, he practically drooled.

The dark wine stain on her champagne gown only served to highlight the pale, luminous skin of her exposed collarbones and calves.

He swallowed hard.

"Tsk tsk, Lucian Langford's woman really is on another level." His gaze roamed greedily over her body. "It's a crying shame for a beauty like this to be enjoyed by just one man."

Little Bean trembled with rage in her womb. "Mommy! Listen to the gross things this fat pig is saying! I want Dad to beat him up!"

"Patience," Seraphina soothed her baby, her internal voice ice-cold. "Once he gets a little closer, I'll teach him a lesson."

Zane leaned over, reaching out to stroke Seraphina's face.

Right as his greasy fingers were about to brush her skin—

She snapped her eyes open.

Her gaze was razor-sharp and terrifyingly lucid.

Zane froze. "How... how are you still awake?"

Under normal circumstances, the drugged room spray should have taken effect long ago.

Inhaling that concoction was supposed to render a person entirely paralyzed and delirious.

Yet the woman before him looked completely unaffected.

Seraphina scoffed. "You thought a cheap parlor trick like that could take me down?"

A split second later, a stream of burning, noxious liquid shot directly into his eyes.

"Argh!"

Zane let out an agonizing howl, slapping his hands over his face as he stumbled backward. "My eyes! My eyes!"

He thrashed on the floor.

After a few minutes on the floor, the intense burning seemed to subside slightly for Zane.

He forced his swollen, bloodshot eyes open, glaring at Seraphina with a look that had shifted from lust to pure malice.

"You little bitch, you're asking for it!" he snarled, scrambling to his feet. "Since you want to play hardball, don't blame me for getting rough!"

Seraphina took a step back, blindly grabbing a heavy glass ashtray from the table.

Clutching the weapon tightly, her eyes tracked Zane's every move.

"I suggest you stay right where you are," she warned sternly.

Zane laughed menacingly. "You think that little toy is gonna stop me? Listen up, once you walked into this room, you lost any chance of walking out in one piece. Someone paid me good money to be here, and I always deliver."

Seraphina's pupils contracted.

Someone paid him good money.

Just as she thought.
