She got up, washed her face, and headed downstairs to grab a bowl of fresh fruit.
Noticing her slightly dampened mood, Susan asked with concern, "Are you feeling unwell, ma'am?"
"No, I just slept too long. I'm a bit groggy."
"Why don't you take a walk in the gardens to get some fresh air?" Susan suggested with a warm smile. "Mr. Langford explicitly asked us to make sure you stay active for the baby's health."
Seraphina nodded, slipping on a pair of comfortable flats before wandering out into the sunlit gardens.
Just as she reached the edge of the lawn, her phone suddenly started buzzing.
It was a video call from Lucian.
Seraphina's finger hovered over the screen, her heart unexpectedly skipping a beat.
Taking a deep breath, she tapped the accept button.
"You're awake?" Lucian's deep, clear voice resonated through the speaker.
"Yeah," she replied softly. "Just got up a little while ago."
"Have you eaten?"
"Not yet. Susan is cooking."
"Alright," Lucian noted, pausing for a moment.
After a beat of hesitation, Seraphina finally asked, "Are you... still busy?"
"Just finished up. I'm back at the hotel."
"I see. Actually, my dad called me today. He said the company was in trouble, and he even apologized for slapping me. Were you the one who retaliated?"
"I did it. As long as he apologizes to you, they'll get the project back."
"There's no need. They deserved it. I already told him I have no control over what you do."
A deep, throaty chuckle echoed from the other end of the line.
Seraphina's heart stuttered in her chest once again.
"What are you laughing at?" she asked.
Seeing his face turn a dangerous shade of purple, Zelda hurried over and poured him a cup of water, adopting a soothing tone. "Honey, mind your health. Don't get so worked up. Things like this... you can't rush them."
Samuel pinched the bridge of his nose. "The banks are hounding me every single day, and the project is totally dead. If this keeps up, the Simmons Group is finished! How can I not rush it?"
Zelda let out a dramatic, manufactured sigh. "What's the point of panicking? Lucian is clearly backing her up now. At this rate, he might just buy out the Simmons Group entirely."
"She wouldn't dare," Samuel practically growled.
"Why wouldn't she? That's why we need to come up with a foolproof plan to put that girl back in her place," Zelda declared.
She had invited that little tramp over last time with a perfectly orchestrated 'surprise' waiting for her.
Unfortunately, the confrontation had spiraled out of control, entirely derailing her scheme.
But this time, she was going to execute a flawless setup.
As long as they uncovered Seraphina's fatal weakness, they would have absolute control over her.
High society placed immense value on a pristine reputation.
She had already paid off her informants and confirmed that Seraphina would be attending The Gilded Heart Gala. That evening was going to present the absolute perfect opportunity, and Zelda was fully prepared to capitalize on it.
