Just as Melody reached the door, it was pushed open from the inside.
The short-haired girl stepped out holding her laptop, while the rest of the team murmured behind her, reviewing a data rollback from the match.
Melody blocked the doorway. Her eyes swept over their unfamiliar faces, her frown deepening.
The short-haired girl stopped. "Can I help you? Who are you looking for?"
Melody stepped closer, her gaze fixed on the girl. "Are you S?"
The girl paused her attempt to untangle her charger cord and shook her head. "No."
"Where is she?"
"She left."
Melody's expression darkened. "She left right after the match?"
"She had things to do."
"What's her name?"
"I can't tell you that."
Melody stared at her, her tone laced with arrogance. "Your team took first place, and you won't even disclose your members' names?"
The short-haired girl laughed. "Miss, there's no rule saying we have to hand out business cards to our rivals."
Melody's composed facade nearly cracked.
She pulled out her phone. "Tell her I can triple whatever you're offering her. If she joins my team, she can have her pick of our resources for the semi-finals."
The short-haired girl raised an eyebrow. "You're trying to poach S?"
"It's just a talent acquisition."
"She doesn't need money."
Melody scoffed. "Everyone needs money. It just means the price isn't high enough yet."
The girl's expression shifted to amusement. "Ms. Monroe, I think you've fundamentally misunderstood who S is."
"I believe in market value."
"Then you should try shopping in a different market."
Melody pocketed her phone. "What does that mean?"
The short-haired girl clutched her laptop and sidestepped her. "It means she isn't someone you can just buy."
The words struck a nerve, making Melody's chest tight with anger. She opened her mouth to interrogate them further.
The young man, the last to leave the room, stepped forward and shielded the short-haired girl.
