My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 317

Lucian walked downstairs.

Susan was bustling around the kitchen. Hearing his footsteps, she poked her head out. "Mr. Langford, are you skipping breakfast?"

"Skipping it. I have matters to attend to at the office." Lucian grabbed his car keys, suddenly remembering something. "By the way, don't forget Sera's soup today."

"I wouldn't dream of forgetting!" Susan waved her hand dismissively. "You just focus on work, Mr. Langford. I will take impeccable care of the missus and the young heir."

Lucian gave a curt nod and headed out the door.

As his car glided out of Lyra Bay, he didn't take the direct route to The Langford Group headquarters. Instead, he took a sharp turn in the opposite direction.

Christian Chase was waiting outside a quiet café.

He had just met a contact here to pick up a stack of confidential documents.

After securing the files, he had texted his boss.

Lucian had ordered him to wait right there.

Moments later, Lucian pulled up, parked the car, and stepped out. Christian hurried over, handing him the manila folder.

"Mr. Langford, everything you asked me to dig up is in here."

Lucian took the folder, flipped it open, and scanned the contents, his brow furrowing slightly.

"Are you absolutely certain about this?"

"Positive." Christian kept his voice extremely low. "Over the past few weeks, Landon hasn't just been socializing with Melody Monroe. He's also been holding closed-door meetings with several founding executives of The Langford Group. Two of these dinners were entirely off the books, completely bypassing corporate channels."

Lucian snapped the folder shut, his face an unreadable mask.

"What was discussed at these dinners?"

"I haven't been able to crack that yet. Everyone involved is keeping their mouths completely shut," Christian paused. "But there is one detail worth noting. One of the executives involved has recently started auditing the operational structure of our Southeast Asian Division. It looks like he's pushing for a massive restructuring."

The Southeast Asian Division.

That was the exact corporate empire Lucian had built from the ground up five years ago. It was the absolute bedrock of his authority within The Langford Group.

If Landon was targeting that division, he was actively trying to rip out Lucian's roots.

"Keep a close eye on him." Lucian handed the folder back to Christian. "Also, run a deep background check on that executive's recent financial movements."

"Dad." Melody descended the staircase and walked over.

Howard barely lifted his eyes, gesturing to the sofa across from him. "Sit."

Melody obediently took a seat.

"This situation with the second Langford boy—are you serious about this?" Howard's tone was completely neutral, betraying zero emotion.

Melody carefully weighed her words. "We're currently seeing each other. So far, things are going well."

"Seeing each other?" Howard let out a sharp scoff. "Seeing each other well enough to end up on the front pages?"

Howard was no fool. Having survived decades of brutal corporate warfare, there wasn't a single maneuver he couldn't see right through.

"We attended an art exhibition together, and someone happened to take a picture," Melody defended herself smoothly.

Howard picked up his teacup, took a slow sip, and let a heavy silence dominate the room.

"I've crossed paths with Landon Langford a few times. The boy is sharp, but his ambition doesn't walk the straight and narrow."
