Little Bean answered with unwavering certainty. "I'm sure."
"There are three men inside. They look like total bad guys, Mommy. They want to grab you."
A sudden chill snaked down Seraphina's spine, but her face remained composed.
She withdrew her gaze, deliberately ignoring the van, and turned back toward the neighborhood gates.
She kept her pace steady and casual, as if nothing was wrong.
Once she was safely back inside the gated community, she pulled out her phone and fired off a text to Lucian. "Someone is following me. A black van, license plate ends in..."
Barely three seconds after the text went through, Lucian's name flashed across her screen.
"Go back inside and lock every door."
His voice was dangerously low, his words clipping at a frantic speed. "Do not go back out. I have a team heading to your location right now. Five minutes."
The line went dead.
Seraphina slipped her phone back into her pocket and hurried toward the villa.
Safely inside, she stood by the window, peering out through a small gap in the blinds.
The black van was still parked across the street, completely stationary.
Little Bean whispered from her womb. "Mommy, the van is still there."
"I know."
"Are you scared?"
Seraphina thought about it for a second before replying in her mind. "I am. But being scared won't fix anything."
Less than five minutes later, two black SUVs tore around the corner out of nowhere, boxing the van in from both the front and the rear.
All four doors of the leading SUV swung open simultaneously. Four men in sharp black suits piled out, their movements exhibiting a terrifyingly lethal military precision.
The van tried to slam it into reverse, but the second SUV had completely sealed off their escape route.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Q's face drained of color.
He had run a background check on Lucian Langford before taking the job. He knew the billionaire wasn't someone to cross.
But he never expected Lucian's men to mobilize this quickly. It was so fast they didn't even have time to blink.
Q instantly recognized the man leading the strike force.
Seraphina opened the door. Frank offered a curt, respectful nod. "Mrs. Langford, I apologize for the scare. The targets have been neutralized. Mr. Langford is already on his way back."
"Did you find out who sent them?" Seraphina asked.
Frank hesitated for a fraction of a second, debating how much clearance he had to share.
Ultimately, he opted for the truth. "We haven't started the interrogation yet, but I found a contact named 'Big Brody' in his call logs. That's likely the man pulling the strings."
"We ran a quick trace. Big Brody's real name is Brody Zacharias. He operates out of the Southside District, runs a crew of about a dozen guys, and specializes in dirty underworld jobs."
Seraphina had never heard the name before.
But Little Bean had.
Little Bean chimed in from her womb. "That Brody guy is connected to Zelda!"
Seraphina acknowledged him silently. *I got it.*
Noticing her silence, Frank added reassuringly, "Don't worry, Ma'am. We'll handle the rest."
Seraphina gave a subtle nod, turning to head back into the house.
