My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 16

Seraphina's smile stiffened slightly.

Her family?

That supposed family was likely spending this exact moment figuring out how to completely destroy her.

Eleanor was sharp as a tack and instantly caught the subtle shift in her expression, letting her smile fade a fraction. "It's perfectly fine. Now that you've married into the Langford family, this is your home. If anyone dares to cross you, they'll have to deal with me!"

A rush of genuine warmth blossomed in Seraphina's chest.

Even though this was just a business arrangement, the old woman's kindness was incredibly real.

"Thank you, Grandma."

Just as the words left her mouth, a shrill, grating voice echoed from the doorway.

"Oh, my. Do we have a guest?"

Seraphina glanced over to see a middle-aged woman draped in a tailored dress and a heavy pearl necklace strutting into the room.

Right behind her walked a middle-aged man in a sharp business suit.

The woman's eyes immediately locked onto Seraphina, scanning her up and down with a deeply mocking smirk playing on her lips.

"Is this the girl Lucian brought home?" She walked right up to Eleanor, her tone dripping with fake amusement. "Mom, I heard a ridiculous rumor that Lucian got married. That has to be a joke, right?"

Charlene had eyes everywhere in the manor, and the moment Seraphina stepped foot inside, she was tipped off.

Eleanor's joyful expression cooled instantly. "Charlene, you're just in time. This is Sera, Lucian's wife."

Charlene's gaze swept over Seraphina once more, finally anchoring on her flat stomach. Her smirk twisted into something far more malicious.

"I heard... she's pregnant?" She lowered her voice, though she made sure everyone in the room could hear her perfectly. "When did you two even meet? That was awfully fast. Kids these days are just so..."

He didn't outright say it, but his implication was violently clear.

The baby's paternity was highly questionable.

Seraphina's fingers curled into tight fists.

It was just one relentless wave of attacks after another.

Little Bean's furious voice echoed in her mind. *Mommy! This bad man is talking trash about me! He's the suspicious one! His whole family is suspicious! I am Daddy's son, I'm one hundred percent his!*

Seraphina soothed him gently in her mind: *Stay calm, Mommy knows.*

Lucian picked up his teacup, his expression entirely unfazed, his voice carrying an icy calm. "Your informants work fast."

Lawrence let out an awkward cough. "Lucian, I'm not trying to cause trouble, but this involves the purity of the Langford bloodline and our social standing. Just think about it, this girl was tangled up with Sebastian at a wedding yesterday, and today she's..."
