Elara
I sighed under the shower now, turning the water off. I walked to the mirror and stared at myself. I moved my wet hair, observing the woman I’d become. Since that warehouse, I haven't seen my real family. Aldric had simply told me they were in an estate. They were doing well, eating fine. I’d only watched them once from a distance when Aldric drove me to see.
They looked okay. But my mother... From the camera footage, she was usually in one spot for a very long time. Just staring. She looked older. Much older than her age. It was my fault. It was because of what I had said to her.
I stared at the mirror. Now I was alone. Aldric wasn't responding to my recordings. My fake family in Blackwater weren't being useful.
I’d washed up, urinating to make sure the delegate’s gunk was flushed out of me.
Ever since Kane and Jace returned from Mistwood, they hadn't told me a thing about the meeting. All they did was bring back this Delegate Vance, who had immediately started sexualizing me.
It was only when he had cornered me that I realized what the offer was. Mistwood had the power to stop the "black beast" rampage at the border. They’d done it for their own pack and were willing to do it here. For a price.
When he mentioned the price to the pack, I knew it was bullshit. They were trying to bleed Blackwater dry. Not that I cared about the wolves, but I wasn't getting anything for ruining a pack for free.
Not until he offered something juicy.
Vance had cornered me in the corridor three days ago. He’d looked me up and down, his eyes tracking the curve of my ass. He thought he had found an easy mark.
"You're a long way from the Alpha’s side, Luna," Vance said.
I turned. He was leaning against the stone wall, his arms crossed.
"I'm in my own house, Delegate," I said, my voice flat. "I can go wherever I please."
Vance stepped closer, his gaze dropping to my stomach. "I heard the news. An heir. That’s a heavy burden to carry while the issues with the border are still a thing. Those beasts... they don't care about royal blood. They just want meat."
I felt a prickle of annoyance. "Is there a point to this?”
