Mission: Revenge – The Heiress's Second Life novel Chapter 7

Clara descended the rest of the stairs.

The moment her feet hit the ground floor, a heavy silence fell over the living room.

She leveled a calm, assessing gaze at Ethan, studying him closely.

Ethan stared right back.

He had grown up hearing that his sick biological sister had been sent to the countryside to recover.

People constantly told him she was awful, but a part of him had always wondered what she actually looked like... and she was significantly prettier than he had imagined.

Standing to the side, Serena scowled.

She had trashed Clara's name to Ethan hundreds of times. Why wasn't he screaming at her to leave?

Why was he just staring at her?

Taking a deep breath, she chimed in. "Ethan, don't look at her like that... It's not her fault your mom died in that car crash. It was Clara's birthday, and she just wanted your mom to hurry home. She didn't mean to cause the accident..."

Those few calculated words instantly caused Ethan's face to darken.

If she hadn't called and begged their mother to hurry back for cake, the crash never would have happened.

Clara had killed their mother!

And he had actually skipped the arcade to come home and see this murderer.

Ethan shot Clara a furious glare, snatched up his backpack, and stormed toward the door.

Clara gave Serena an icy side-eye.

Having the audacity to brainwash her brother right in front of her... fine. She would settle that score before the day was out.

But first, she had a more pressing matter.

"Stop right there," Clara commanded coldly.

Instead of stopping, Ethan sped up.

Ethan felt like he was going to explode.

He was in the fourth grade and had literally never completed a single homework assignment.

He never studied, his family never checked on his schooling, and the teachers were too afraid of his background to discipline him!

"Mom! Serena! Help me!"

Ethan screamed.

Hearing those words felt like a physical knife twisting in Clara's chest.

But she knew she couldn't blame him.

Since he was old enough to understand words, he had been conditioned to call Vera his mother and Serena his sister.

She only hated herself for not being reborn sooner.

Behind her, Vera and Serena yelled out, chasing after them.
