“Laurence, I’m your uncle. I even carried you in my arms when you were but a baby.”

Tony asked anxiously, “We haven’t seen each other in thirty years, and I have lots and lots I want to talk to you about. Are you not willing to even have a meal together?”

In terms of seniority, he was Laurence’s second cousin once removed.

Tony and the previous family head were second cousins, and his grandfather and Laurence’s great-grandfather were half-siblings with different mothers. It was just that Laurence’s great-grandfather had been born to the first wife, and had been raised as the heir since young, while Tony’s grandfather had been born to the second wife, and thus had no chance at the family head’s seat, so he became a branch family.

Despite being born to the same father, because of the difference in status, his descendants also lost their chance at the head of the family position and grew distant from the center of power.

Laurence smiled but it was mirthless. “Don’t you suspect that I’m a fake? There are tons of people surnamed Longbottom and I’m not even the only one named Laurence. We’ve been at loggerheads all this while, and you’re believing me so easily?”

Tony spluttered before replying, “You’re not the only one named Laurence Longbottom out there, yes, but you look very much like your father. Your father and I were as close as brothers. We grew up together and I was very close to him.”

He had gotten married early and had kids early too. Laurence’s father, on the other hand, was younger than him and had married late. He had only started having kids a few years after getting married, too, and Laurence was his youngest child, so the age gap was big.

Manny and Laurence were considered to be of the same generation, but Laurence was only in his early thirties, while Manny was already well into his fifties.

“Before you turned one, I carried you often, and I pretty much watched you grow until you were one. Even if I wanted to doubt you, I couldn’t. You simply look so much like him.

It was only after they vanished into the distance that Tony dropped the excited expression and said to Manny and Roxy with a dark look, “Let’s go straight home.”

At first, he planned on personally bringing Roxy to the O’Connors’ home to visit, but there was no longer such a need, because the O’Connors would never let her marry into the family. Louis had not even glanced at his granddaughter.

Roxy’s meager charms had no effect on Louis.

After all, the man had grown up among Aphrodites and Adonises and had seen plenty of beauties. Roxy was pretty, and she definitely was among the top in terms of status in Havenmill, but to the O’Connors, she simply fell short in every way.

It seemed like it would be pretty hard for him to help Roxy find good in-laws as backing.

Once Laurence took over as the head of the family, it would be even harder for Roxy to find good in-laws. Though outsiders had no evidence that Tony was behind the murder of Laurence’s family, many suspected it.
