After all, Stella had not spent much time with Felix.
She could not claim to understand him completely.
Evan, however…
“But you? I know exactly what kind of man you are.”
Evan’s expression stiffened.
“Stop pretending you’re worried about me,” Stella said. “A man like you doesn’t have a heart.”
“You don’t even know how to respect another person, let alone love one.”
That was what Evan had become in Stella’s eyes.
A man with nothing left to redeem him.
Her words cut deeply.
“You really think I don’t love you?”
“Don’t you think that question is a joke?” Stella asked. “Besides, this hardly seems like the time for us to discuss love.”
Love?
The very idea was absurd.
Especially coming from Evan now.
“You’re right,” he said. “This isn’t the time.”
The moment he asked the question, even Evan realized how ridiculous it sounded.
It truly was a joke.
Silence fell between them again.
After a long while, Stella spoke.
“Do you think you’ll actually get Yara back this time?”
Evan’s chest tightened.
That was the very question that had haunted him throughout the journey.
Would Aaron truly hand Yara over?
“Aaron has kept Yara beside him for a long time,” Stella said. “That isn’t normal for him.”
Aaron had probably developed some kind of attachment to her.
Back in Harbor City, Stella had heard that women came and went from Aaron’s side.
None of them lasted more than a few days.
Yara was different.
