Jared chance novel Chapter 6557

"Gwendolyn..." Jared opened his eyes and called her name softly.

She froze.

He hadn't said anything else, but she saw it in his eyes anyway.

With a sweep of her hand, Gwendolyn wrapped the cave entrance in white mist until nothing inside could be seen.

Then she began to undress. It had been a long time, and she was going to dual cultivate with Jared.

When they finally pulled each other close, the temperature inside the cave began to rise.

And each time they moved together, Josephine’s name slipped from his lips.

Gwendolyn didn't mind. She knew no one could ever take Josephine's place in his heart.

At the same time, in the Ember God Palace...

In the great hall, Aurelius sat on the Flame God's Throne with golden flames burning all around him.

Three people knelt before him.

They were the two who had escaped from the Godfall Wastes—Vaughn and Silas—and the deputy of the middle-aged man Josephine had killed in the valley today.

Vaughn and Silas were both covered in injuries. The sword wound across Vaughn's chest had been bandaged, but blood was still seeping through, and though Silas's sunken chest had been treated, every breath still looked painful.

They supported each other as they knelt in the center of the great hall, foreheads pressed to the floor, not daring to look up.

After a full day and night of recovery and sheer endurance, they had finally made it back to the Ember God Palace.

They had left full of confidence.

They came back in ruins.

As for the celestial cultivator who served as the deputy, he was shaking all over, his face white as paper, like a man who had just crawled back from death's door.

Aurelius said nothing.

He stayed silent for so long that everyone in the hall started to wonder if he'd fallen asleep.

But his eyes were open.

Those red-gold eyes flickered in the firelight like two burning stars.

"So," he said at last, his voice so calm it turned the air cold, "Garrick is dead. Thirty Ember Drake Guards were wiped out to the last man. And you two crawled back here in this state."

Vaughn and Silas both shuddered violently.

"Your servant failed."

Vaughn's voice had gone raw. "Jared... his chaotic force suppresses all holy radiance. My judgment flame was useless in front of him, like wet paper. Senior Garrick burned his blood essence and forced his cultivation to the threshold of Golden Immortal Level Four, and Jared still ran him through with a single sword strike."

"A single sword strike." Aurelius repeated the words, his red-gold eyes narrowing.

He rose to his feet.

The flames around him surged with the motion, and the temperature in the great hall spiked several times over in an instant.

The divine fire lamps hanging through the hall exploded again, scattering golden sparks everywhere.

A few disciples kneeling below were hit. Their skin blistered and burned on contact, but none of them dared move. None of them dared make a sound.

"True Immortal Realm Level Eight, and he killed someone at the peak of Golden Immortal Level Three with one strike." There was a trace of wariness in Aurelius's voice now, so slight even he seemed not to notice it. "What exactly is Jared?"

No one could answer him.

Vaughn and Silas lowered their heads even farther, their foreheads nearly pressed flat to the floor.

Aurelius let his gaze slide off Vaughn and Silas and settle on the celestial cultivator who had survived as the deputy.

"What about your side?"

The cultivator shuddered so hard his whole body shook. His voice trembled. "R-Reporting to Court Master... I was ordered to lead the patrol north of Rookfire. Today, in the outer reaches of the Ashford Range, we found a group of demon cultivators hunting the Lava Lion King. I planned to wait until both sides had exhausted each other, then wipe them all out in one sweep, but... but..."

"But what?"

A thread of killing intent flashed through his red-gold eyes. "What are the demons trying to pull?"

He turned and sat back down on the throne, letting the flames swallow him again.

"Pass down my order."

His voice came from inside the flames, cold and absolute. "Deploy the first and second companies of the Ember Drake Guard. Seal every route north of the Ashford Range.

The first company will search for Jared.

The moment they find him, kill him. No capture. Just kill him."

"The second company will investigate that demon woman. I want her identity, her background, and her purpose. You have three days."

"Yes, sir!"

The people in the hall accepted the order and withdrew.

Left alone, Aurelius sat on the black throne, his fingers tapping lightly against the armrest.

Each dull thud echoed through the hall.

Jared. The demon woman. The Godfall Wastes. The Ashford Range. The Northern Abyss Frost Chasm.

The names circled through his mind like scattered chess pieces, close enough to suggest a pattern, but not enough for him to see the board.

Still, instinct kept pressing at him.

Sooner or later, those pieces were going to connect.

And when they did, whatever waited at the end of that line was not going to be good for him.

"I don't care what you're planning," Aurelius murmured, his red-gold eyes flashing cold through the flame. "In my territory, you follow my rules.

Anyone who doesn't dies."
