Jared chance novel Chapter 6657

"Jared, you really think highly of yourself."

Mockery sharpened Blackraven's voice. "You killed a few Golden Immortal Level Six and Level Seven nobodies, and now you think you can run your mouth in front of a Golden Immortal Level Eight expert?"

"Nobodies?"

Jared raised an eyebrow. "I remember the Golden Immortal Level Seven demon hound king. Your Golden Crow clan sent people after it too, didn't you? Several of them died, and they still failed to bring it down. So if Level Seven cultivators are nobodies, what does that make the Golden Crow members who died to that hound king? Worse than nobodies?"

Blackraven's face darkened completely.

"You are courting death."

"Whether I am courting death is not something you get to decide." Jared waved lazily. "But you really do have a temper problem. Every few sentences, it is 'courting death' this and 'courting death' that. Did no one in the Golden Crow clan ever teach you how to talk? Or do all of you skip books and go straight to threats?"

Blackraven's fists tightened. His teeth ground together.

"Jared, I was going to give you a quick end. Now I have changed my mind."

"Oh?" Jared looked genuinely interested. "What are you going to do?"

"I will carve the flesh from your body one piece at a time. I will let you bleed until your last breath, and then you will understand what it means to offend the Golden Crow clan."

Jared burst out laughing.

"Carve me up? What are you, a butcher?" He looked Blackraven over from head to toe. "To be fair, you do look the part. All dark and greasy. Put you in a pigpen, and people might need a second glance to figure out which one is the man and which one is the hog."

"You--!"

Blood rushed into Blackraven's face. Killing intent nearly spilled from his eyes.

Gwendolyn stood to the side, her icy-blue eyes bright with barely restrained laughter.

She had known Jared for a long time, but she had rarely seen him weaponize his mouth like this.

Blackraven had chosen the wrong opponent.

"What about me?" Jared kept going. "You are supposed to be an assassin. Instead of practicing clean kills, you came out here to argue with me? Can you even win? I grew up in Azure Cloud Sanctuary arguing with old priests for decades. What are you compared to that?"

"I will kill you!"

Blackraven finally snapped.

His body blurred, turning into a black streak as he lunged at Jared.

He moved so fast that the air held only a faint afterimage. Killing intent cut forward with him.

Jared had been ready.

He shifted aside, letting the first claw scrape past the hem of his robe.

The fabric split.

His skin was untouched.

"Fast enough," Jared said while retreating. "The aim needs work. You lined that up for so long and still missed."

Blackraven did not answer.

The second claw came right after the first, faster and lower, flashing toward Jared's throat like black lightning.

Jared avoided most of it, but not all.

The claw grazed his shoulder, opening a shallow line of blood that quickly stained his collar.

Gwendolyn's expression changed. She was about to move, but Jared raised a hand and stopped her.

"Nothing. Just a scratch."

He stepped back several paces, rolled his shoulder once, and looked at Blackraven again. "Golden Immortal Level Eight does have some weight. You are stronger than those Level Six and Level Seven cultivators."

Blackraven's mouth curved with pride.

"Good. At least you understand. The next strike will not be so gentle."

"You were not gentle just now." Jared tilted his head. "That was your full strength, wasn't it? And all you gave me was this little cut. Your Level Eight realm seems a little watered down. Did you buy your promotion?"

Blackraven's smile froze.

"You are courting death."
