He quickly walked up to Arthur.
"Arthur, do you know her?"
Arthur shook his head.
"I don't. She knocked on the wrong door. Come on in, Finn."
Finn helped guide Arthur back inside.
Sienna stood in the doorway, refusing to follow them in.
She looked back at Maeve's retreating figure.
Maeve had already reached the stairwell landing, her pace frantic, almost as if she were fleeing.
"Maeve!" Sienna called out.
Maeve stopped but didn't turn around. Her cold voice drifted back up the stairs:
"You're a relentless one, aren't you? I told you to get lost yesterday, but clearly, you didn't learn your lesson."
It was the first time in her life anyone had called Sienna 'relentless' to her face.
But strangely enough, she wasn't angry in the slightest.
She had seen the way Maeve crouched on the ground to save that little deer. Her hands had been so gentle, humming that low-frequency sound until the deer completely calmed down.
Someone like that couldn't possibly be a bad person.
She was wearing a mask.
But what was she hiding?
"I just genuinely want to get to know you," Sienna said.
Maeve turned around and glared at her, completely merciless:
"Get to know me? Haven't you been cursed out enough yet?"
Right at that moment, Finn heard the commotion and rushed out of the apartment.
From inside, he had heard Sienna being called 'relentless' and told she 'hadn't learned her lesson.'
Every single insult grated on his nerves.
"Hold it right there," he demanded, stopping Maeve in her tracks.
Maeve's steps faltered, though she still didn't completely stop.
"I said, stop right there."
Finn took the stairs two at a time, cutting off her path and blocking her way.
"I nearly hit you yesterday, and that was my fault. But you can insult me all you want—just don't insult her."
"Finn, just ignore her."
Finn was pulled back inside.
Maeve stood on the stairs, staring deeply at Finn's retreating back. She watched him intently, a mist of unshed tears rising in her eyes.
While she watched Finn, Sienna watched her.
It took a full minute for Maeve to realize she had lost her composure. Her gaze shifted back to Sienna, instantly hardening into a dangerous, scrutinizing glare.
"Little doctor, did you happen to overhear something just now?" Maeve asked sharply.
Sienna met her gaze directly:
"I heard enough."
Maeve's expression twisted:
"I don't understand. Why are you so obsessed with digging into my life? Even if you are his lover, prying into my affairs won't do you any good. What is your endgame?"
Sienna didn't answer. Instead, she pulled out her phone, opened her digital contact card, and held the screen out to her.
"Maeve, I won't breathe a word of this to anyone, but I genuinely do want to get to know you. Will you give me a chance?"
Maeve's eyes darkened as she stared at the contact code...
