I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 150

Finn crouched down, wrapped his hand over hers, held it for a second, and then let go.

"Take your time."

The words were deep and steady.

They instantly grounded Sienna's frantic nerves, and her heart actually settled.

She took a deep breath, and the needle slid perfectly into the vein on the third try.

She secured it with tape and adjusted the drip rate. When she stood up, her legs had gone numb, and she swayed.

Finn grabbed her arm to steady her.

His touch was a reassuring, solid warmth against her skin.

The little girl's fever broke relatively quickly.

But the boy's temperature was still rising, spiking to dangerous levels.

His condition was deteriorating rapidly.

Sienna peeled back the boy's eyelids to check his pupils, then frantically dug through her medical kit again.

Dammit! Not enough!

They only had a two-day supply of antimalarials left. The twins needed a minimum of five days.

She tore the kit apart twice, but it was empty.

Paxton immediately stepped up.

"What's wrong? How can I help?"

Sienna's face was grim.

"We're out of meds. The malaria parasites in his blood are already resisting the current dosage. I need to increase it, but we don't have enough. The nearest city is a seven or eight-hour round trip. He won't make it that long."

Paxton pulled out his phone. No signal.

He walked to the doorway and held the phone up high. Still nothing.

He asked the chief if they had a radio or satellite phone, but the chief shook his head.

Sienna knelt back down, pressing her fingers against the boy's pulse.

A hundred and forty beats a minute.

She looked up at Finn.

"His temperature is still climbing. If I don't increase the dose, he won't survive the night."

Finn was already standing by the window.

He stared out into the distance for a long time before turning back.

"There's a small transport plane parked in the savanna east of the village. White fuselage, blue stripes on the tail. Who does it belong to?"

Chief Aris blinked in surprise.

A freezing chill shot up Sienna's spine.

Finn's expression was deadly serious.

"Give me a nerve block. Numb the pain completely. Two or three hours is all I need."

Sienna froze, immediately refusing.

"Absolutely not. Do you want to lose that arm permanently?"

"Sienna," he said her name softly. "I want us both to make it out of here alive."

Sienna's eyes burned fiercely.

How did everything spiral into this nightmare?

Paxton stood off to the side, utterly powerless, unable to utter a single word.

For the first time, he felt like an absolute outsider.

Finn grabbed Sienna's wrist.

"Give me the shot. I'll be fine."

Sienna stared at him, a massive lump in her throat, fighting desperately to keep her tears from falling.

Finn just smiled.

"Are you that terrified of me dying? I should really thank these villagers."
