I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 148

A car horn blasted from behind them.

A much better-equipped off-road vehicle sped up from the rear.

Sienna glanced at the driver and froze.

Paxton Zane.

What was he doing here?

Paxton quickly overtook them, parked, and strode straight toward Sienna.

"Come on, get in my car. It's faster." He glanced at Finn, entirely unfazed, as if he had expected to find him here all along.

Sienna didn't hesitate. Paxton's arrival was exactly the lifeline she needed.

Both logistically and emotionally.

He was a godsend.

She grabbed her medical kit, hopped out of the SUV, and slid into Paxton's car.

Paxton sat in the driver's seat, parallel with Finn's vehicle.

He turned his head to look at Sienna.

Finn's face was a stormy mess.

With his left arm out of commission, he couldn't drive. If Sienna left him, staying here was a death sentence.

With no other choice, he got out, pulled open Paxton's rear door, and slid in.

The car roared to life.

Paxton drove, while Sienna rode shotgun.

Their conversation flowed effortlessly.

Sienna grabbed her kit, stepped out of the vehicle, and approached them, introducing herself in English and explaining their purpose.

"Doctors from China?" Chief Aris's tone was deadly.

Paxton stepped forward, flashing a diplomatic smile.

"That's right. We got word that two kids in your village are sick. We brought medicine."

"Murderers!"

A young man behind the chief screamed in heavily accented English.

Sienna flinched, trying to explain.

The crowd behind the chief exploded into a frenzy.

"You're all murderers! The Chinese doctors who came last month killed our children!"

Chief Aris's eyes turned murderous as he pointed his black staff at Sienna and Paxton.

"Kill them!"

Sienna froze, her ears ringing violently. This was spiraling completely out of control—she was just here to save lives!

Just as a jagged rock hurled by a villager was about to smash into her head, someone grabbed her from behind, yanking her out of the projectile's path.

She whipped her head around...
