The wall exploded inward.
Concrete shattered. Dust and debris flew everywhere. I flinched as a wave of force knocked the air from my lungs and sent Lucien staggering backward, the weight on top of me gone in an instant.
Silas didn’t say a word. He liked a black shadow straight at Lucien, one palm slamming into his chest with enough force to send him flying across the room. Lucien hit the back wall with a thud, blood immediately seeping from the corner of his mouth.
His two henchmen finally reacted and lunged at Silas from both sides.
It hardly mattered.
An S–class predator didn’t fight fair. He fought to end it. One swing, one impact, and both men were down–one crashed through a stack of wooden crates and went still, the other hit the wall and slid to the floor, limp.
I sat there on the ground, stunned, as Silas straightened.
His tiger ears were pinned back, eyes blazing amber, tail lashing furiously. His chest rose and fell in heavy breaths. I’d seen him angry before. This was something else.
Terrifying. Beautiful. Mine.
Lucien wiped blood from his lip and narrowed his golden snake eyes in the dim light. He took one look at Silas, did the math, and made his

He stepped back. Twice. Then slipped through the broken wall into the dark tunnel beyond. Before he disappeared, his voice came floating back, low and amused.
“Interesting. Miss Collins, we’ll meet again.”
Silas’s tail bristled. Every muscle in his body tensed, ready to bolt after him.
“Don’t,” I said, my voice cracking as I pushed myself up. My legs were shaking. “Silas, don’t chase him. Let’s just, let’s leave.”
He turned at the sound of my voice. And that’s when he actually saw me.

His pupils blew wide. Something raw flashed across his face–anger, guilt, relief, all tangled up.
He crossed the room in two strides, scooped me up like I weighed nothing, and walked straight through the hole he’d just made in the wall.
The cold morning air hit my face the moment we stepped out, and I finally, finally let out the breath I’d been holding.
Silas set me down on solid ground and immediately pulled me against his chest. His forehead pressed to the top of my head, and his arms locked around me like he’d never let go.
I didn’t want him to.
Silas drove us away from the abandoned district at a measured speed. I sat in the passenger seat, wrapped in his jacket, and my fingers still wouldn’t

kept one hand on the wheel and rached over with the other, covering my hand with his. His palm was hot and steady, slowly warming the ice from my fingertips.
We drove in silence for a few minutes.
“We were supposed to go to the Matching Center today,” I said. My voice came out rough, barely my own.
Silas glanced at me. His eyes still carried the edge of residual fear. “You‘ re in no shape to-”
“I want to go.” I cut him off. “Silas, I want to go even more now. We’ve already waited a whole night.”
He stared at my profile for a moment. Then he nodded, flipped the turn signal, and changed direction toward the Matching Center.
He pulled over at a 24–hour convenience store a few blocks later.
“Wait here,” he said, and went inside at a jog.
When he came back, he was holding a bar of chocolate and a small bottle of warm water. He unscrewed the cap and handed it to me, then tore open the chocolate and set it near my hand.
“Eat something sweet. You’re too pale.”
I took a bite. The slightly bitter sweetness melted on my tongue, and my throat tightened without warning.
I didn’t say anything. Just turned my head to look out the window. But my hand found his on the armrest and gripped it hard, nails almost digging into the back of his hand.

arrived at the Matching Center just as the sky fully lightened. The staff had barely opened, and the receptionist took one look at us–covered in dust, clothes torn and damaged–and visibly flinched.
But she confirmed our reservation quickly and started preparing the bonding documents without asking any unnecessary questions.
While we waited, Silas said he needed the restroom and disappeared down the hall.
When he came back, he was holding something.
He walked up to me, opened his palm, and the tips of his ears went faintly pink.
It was a small ring, folded from a silver candy wrapper. Crinkled, with uneven edges and messy crease lines, but folded with obvious care.
“I lost the ring I bought,” he said quietly. “Must’ve dropped it when I was carrying you out of the basement. Didn’t see any jewelry stores on the way, so I just… made this temporarily. It’s a bit ugly.”
I looked down at the little foil ring in his palm. My nose stung.
I reached out my left hand and held my ring finger up to him.
Silas carefully slid the foil ring onto my finger. The size was exactly right.
He looked up at me. His eyes were bright and nervous.
Before he could say anything, the staff member returned and placed the documents on the table.
We each signed. Pressed our fingerprints. The whole process was very

When the staff member announced that the binding was officially effective, Silas turned to me and asked in a low voice, “Aurora, now I completely belong to you.”
I stood on my toes and kissed him.
