for a few days.”
“We are,” said Silas in a deep breath as he came forward and held my hands. “We are heading to the Matching Center right now.”
Mom let out a shriek of joy. Dad looked relieved, even pleased
And Phoebe looked as though she just got slapped.
“Then go. Finish the papers first. We can talk about everything else later” dad said with a grin. “Maybe the whole family can go celebrate later. We‘ ll even invite the neighbors. Let them see my daughter’s S–Rank werebeast.”
I rolled my eyes internally and walked out of the door with Silas, knowing that I would never agree to that stupid gathering with my family.
“Sorry you have to see that,” I said to him apologetically after we left the house.c
“It’s fine,” he shook his head. “But can you go to the Matching Center first? I want to get you some flowers.”
I blinked. “Flowers?”
He cleared his throat, looking almost embarrassed. “For the ceremony.
Humans usually like flowers on important days, don’t they?”
My heart softened. He was taking this very seriously.
“OK.” I stood on tiptoes and kissed him on the lips. “Go. But don’t keep me waiting for too long.”
“I won’t,” he deepened that kiss. “Promise.”

He left in a hurry. And as I walked down the front steps myself, I felt someone’s gaze burning into my back.
It was Phoebe. She was staring at me through the kitchen window, her expression terrifying like a creepy stalker.
It sent a chill down my spine. I gave her a finger and quickly walked
away.
The Matching Center looked exactly like it had last time.
I checked in at the front desk. The receptionist glanced at my name, looked up with a surprised smile.
then
“Miss Collins. You’re here again.”
“Yes,” I smiled. “This time with a different werebeast.”
Her smile softened. “I hope everything goes well today.”
I was filling the form when my phone buzzed. Silas sent a photo.
He was holding a bouquet so large that it almost covered half his chest. White roses, pale blue hydrangeas, and small silver–green leaves were wrapped together in soft paper.
[Be there in 5] he texted.
I stared at the screen and felt a stupid grin on my lips. I couldn’t even wait in the room anymore. I had to go out and meet him.
So I typed back.
[See you at the entrance.]

The sunlight outside was bright enough to make me squint. I had just stepped onto the pavement when a black van rolled to a stop beside the carb.
The side door slid open. Then it all happened too quickly.
“NO-” I had barely let out a scream when a rough hand clamped over my mouth. Then an arm locked around my waist.
I was yanked into the van.
Panic shot through me. What the hell is going on?!!
I kicked backward and hit sone’s leg. The man cursed.
Then I heard another man
“Put her out.”
voice e- husky and elegant, with a lazy drawl.
A cloth pressed against my nose.
Darkness quickly rushed over me.

Chapter 19
Aurora’s POV
When I opened my eyes, the first thing I felt was cold. It was damp, dirty cold, seeping through my dress and crawling into my bones.
My head throbbed so badly that for a few seconds, I couldn’t even remember where I was. The ceiling above me was low and cracked, with dark stains spreading across it. A single yellow bulb hung from a wire, flickering weakly every few seconds.
The air smelled of mold, rust, and wet concrete.
I tried to move. Pain shot through my wrists. Only then did I realize my hands were tied behind my back.
My heart slammed against my ribs.
So, looks like I was kidnapped.
But why? My family wasn’t the wealthiest one in town. They had targeted the wrong person if they wanted ransom.
I sucked in a sharp breath and jerked against the ropes, but they only cut deeper into my skin. The chair beneath me scraped against the floor with a harsh sound.
Almost immediately after, I heard footsteps outside the door. They knew I was awake.
The door swung open with a loud click, and a wave of colder air rolled into the room.

Three men walked in.
They were all huge, broad–shouldered, and rough–looking, with scars across their faces and arms. One had wolf ears pierced with silver rings. Another had dark scales along his neck. The last one smiled at me with sharp fangs.
I held my breath, pressing my back against the chair. Who the hell are they? Most werebeasts I met were decent and well–educated by the Matching Center. Nothing like these beasts here.
One of them dragged a metal chair across the floor and sat down backward on it, grinning at me.
“Well, well,” he said. “Sleeping beauty is awake.”
I clenched my jaw and
my voice steady.
“Who are you?” I asked. “What do you want from me? Money?”
There was a short pause of silence.
Then all three burst into loud laughter.
“Money?” the wolf–eared one repeated, rocking with laughter. “She thinks this is about money.”
The scaled one leaned closer, his eyes crawling over my white dress. “Upper District girls always think money solves everything.”
I tried not to shrink back. My palms were sweating behind the chair. My breathing wanted to turn fast, but I forced it down.
“Then what do you want?” I asked.

Before any of them could answer, a new voice came from the hallway
Money can buy many things, Miss Collins. But it can’t buy my men.”
The voice was low and hoarse, with a strange lazy smoothness to it.
The laughter stopped. The three werebeasts immediately stood up and stepped aside.
His face was hidden in the shadow, so for a moment, all I could see was his tall figure wrapped in a long, black coat.
He stopped under the flickering bulb and took out a cigarette. A small flame rose in the darkness. The fire lit up his face.
I inhaled sharply, a little shocked.
This was probably the most beautiful man I had ever met.
Not in the clean, steady way Silas was though. Silas made people feel safe even when he looked dangerous. His strength was warm, solid, and protective.
But this man was different.
There was something toxic and dangerous about him. I could tell he was very attractive among women and very easy to break their hearts.
Then he lifted his eyes–They were gold. With thin vertical pupils cutting through the center.
My blood suddenly turned cold.
This was a snake werebeast. And I think I had seen eyes like that in news reports.
“What’s your name?” I asked.

His smile deepened slightly, as if he pleasantly surprised that I’d ask for
his name.
“Lucien Voss,” he said.
My heart skipped a leap. Shit. I did know that name!
He’s the leader of a Lower District werebeasts gang. Most of the members couldn’t find proper owners, never completed legal bonds, and survived through underground fights, smuggling, intimidation, or worse.
He and his gang had been called some of the most dangerous criminals hiding between the Lower and Middle Districts.
I remembered my father watching that report at breakfast once and saying werebeasts like that should never be allowed near civilized society.
And now one of them was standing in front of me.
My body went rigid. And Lucien noticed it.
He tilted his head, amused. “So you know me. We can skip the introduction part.”
I forced myself to meet his golden eyes.
“What do you want from me?” I asked.
Lucien took another slow drag from his cigarette. His eyes stayed on my face the whole time, watching every little change in my expression.
“Your sister Phoebe sent us,” he said idly. “She helped me out once in the Lower District and now I must repay her favor. God, she cried so hard when she came to me. Said you ruined her life?”
A bitter chill spread through my chest.

I knew she hated me. But hiring Lower District criminals to kidnap me? She went lower than I thought.
“What did she ask you to do?” I asked.
