I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 301

The water temperature had already shifted to match the biting chill of early winter. Freezing water dumped directly over his head. Without even bothering to take off his clothes, the icy torrent soaked through the fabric, more than enough to douse the raging inferno in his veins.

His drenched dress shirt clung tight to his skin, perfectly outlining the severe burn across his back.

As the biting cold set in, he couldn't tell which was doing a better job of keeping his mind brutally sharp—the freezing water or the agonizing sting from his wound.

The roar of the shower echoed in the bathroom for a long time. It wasn't until his racing heart finally settled into a steady rhythm and the feverish heat in his blood died down that Jorrod finally shut off the water. He braced both hands against the tiled wall, standing there for a long time.

The wound on his back pulsed with sharp, rhythmic pain. Water dripped steadily from the tip of his nose. He was completely soaked, but his mind was crystal clear.

Jorrod looked down at the puddle forming at his feet, a bitter, self-deprecating laugh escaping him.

The burn was already drenched. He had essentially just taken a full shower.

When Susan came upstairs to fetch something and bumped into Jorrod stepping into the hallway, she nearly had a heart attack.

The man was draped in a black bathrobe, the belt tied loosely around his waist. He was practically radiating a freezing, damp chill that made his sharp features look even more severe. It was painfully obvious he hadn't just 'washed his face'.

"Mr. Vaughn, you have a severe burn! What on earth were you thinking taking a shower?"

Susan had worked for the Vaughn family since her youth. Even though Jorrod was a grown man, she still saw him as the boy she had helped raise. When it came to his health, she was absolutely relentless. She physically shoved him toward his dressing room, nagging and scolding until she forced him out the door to the hospital.

By coincidence, Dr. Sterling was on shift.

The doctor was completely at a loss for words.

He had warned him. He had practically yelled at him.

But he couldn't exactly scream obscenities at a billionaire, especially when he wanted to keep his job.

"I told you to just use a damp cloth. Did you really have to stand under a running shower?"

And he hadn't even tried to protect the wound.

Looking at the waterlogged, irritated skin, it was obvious Jorrod hadn't just gotten it splashed—he had stood directly under the stream for God knows how long.

Losing control was the most humiliating concept in his vocabulary.

But today, he had lost control far more than once.

Early the next morning.

Wesley officially handed in his resignation.

Jorrod didn't try to stop him, but he did authorize a very generous severance package—more than enough to keep Wesley financially comfortable for a few years without working.

Wesley felt incredibly guilty taking the money and tried to return it, but Stella gently talked him out of it. "Just take it. Mr. Vaughn doesn't care about the money. Returning it isn't going to make him feel better; it's just going to drag him back into dealing with a situation he clearly wants to be done with."

Stella knew her boss was genuinely furious this time. She sympathized with Wesley, but she also knew he had messed up badly. If someone had thrown away her most treasured possession, she probably would have fired them on the spot too.

At the same time, Stella's sharp instincts picked up on something else.

It seemed Mr. Vaughn had truly fallen for Sienna all over again.
