Sienna was completely baffled by the entire ordeal.
The pool was an artificial set built specifically for the shoot. Although the water looked crystal clear, it hadn't been chlorinated or sanitized, making it far below swimming standards. Factoring in the evening chill, the freezing water was a guaranteed ticket to hypothermia.
The moment the water splashed, Joey let out a piercing scream, instantly drawing the attention of the surrounding crew. The set dissolved into total chaos.
Sienna didn't know how to swim, and she had zero intention of jumping in to save her.
But that scream of "Sienna" was incredibly bizarre. It sounded forced, as if she was yelling just for the sake of yelling, proving this wasn't a simple slip-and-fall. Sienna just stood firmly on the sidelines, watching quietly.
From the corner of her eye, a figure suddenly sprinted past her from behind. A massive splash followed, sending droplets of freezing water onto her calves.
By the time the man dragged the thrashing Joey onto the deck, the safety crew was already sprinting over with equipment, their flashlights cutting wildly through the dark edge of the pool.
The man turned his head to shield his eyes from the glare. When he opened them again, his brows knit tightly together, his gaze locking onto the stunned woman standing safely on the deck in a complex, heavy stare.
The night was thick and the lighting dim, making his narrow eyes look as if they had been soaked in the darkness.
As the beam of a flashlight grazed the edge of Jorrod's face, casting a thin layer of light over his irises, Sienna caught a fleeting flash of frantic worry. A split second later, it was swallowed entirely by a much deeper, unspeakable emotion.
Sienna blinked.
A hazy realization dawned in her mind.
Did Jorrod... mistake Joey for her?
Joey choked on water, coughing violently as she lay dripping wet on the deck while the crew swarmed around her.
Sienna didn't move, nor did she look in Joey's direction. She just watched as the man, his footsteps slightly unsteady, walked straight toward her without sparing a single glance at the woman he had just rescued.
She was absolutely certain now.
Jorrod had definitely thought she was the one drowning.
Jorrod was only wearing a dark crimson dress shirt, which made his exposed forearms look chillingly pale.
It was the first time Sienna had ever seen him wear this color. Soaked by the freezing pool, the crimson had deepened into something rich and hypnotic. The fabric clung to him like a translucent red mist, perfectly tracing the sharp, powerful lines of his chest and abdomen. Paired with the damp strands of hair plastered against his forehead, he exuded an inexplicable, predatory allure.
Water dripped steadily from the ends of his hair, and he carelessly pushed it back with one hand.
He didn't answer.
Sienna glanced over at the frantic crew. They were too busy fussing over the VIP actress to even notice the man who had just saved her. She opened her mouth to call for help...
"I want you to take me."
Fortunately, since Jorrod frequented this location, he had his own private room. Before heading to the hospital, Sienna helped him inside to change into dry clothes.
Her car was parked nearby. As she helped him into the passenger seat, she made sure to adjust his long legs, terrified of aggravating his supposed cramps.
When she looked up, she found the man staring down at her.
The cabin was dark, masking his exact expression. But bathed in the cold moonlight spilling through the window, she saw him sitting rigidly upright, his spine completely straight—stubbornly maintaining his perfect posture.
Sienna stood up, grabbed Jorrod by the shoulders, and shoved him firmly back against the seat. "Drop the tough guy act. Just lean back."
Jorrod snapped his eyes shut, letting out a muffled groan of pure pain. The veins on the back of his left hand bulged as he gripped the center console, trying to force himself upright.
