Her Hidden Hero from the Unwritten Page novel Chapter 38

Whitney's expression remained dark. Since her videos blew up, she had made a lot of new friends—mostly famous influencers. Whenever they shared tidbits about their personal lives, they all seemed to come from wealthy backgrounds or families of highly educated professionals.

Whenever the topic of family came up, Whitney felt too ashamed to speak. Her fans and classmates all assumed she was some rich heiress.

But no matter how perfectly she played the part outside, her life felt like a thin sheet of bubble wrap—one poke from anyone and the illusion would pop.

"Here, have some juice. It's freshly squeezed orange," Isabella said, offering the glass to Whitney.

Whitney was sitting on the rug, surrounded by new cosplay outfits she had just bought. She was in the middle of trying them on one by one. Seeing the glass of juice only fueled her irritation.

She was a high school student. On top of studying, she had to stress over filming new videos and begging for tips on livestreams.

It would be one thing if her parents couldn't help, but they had literally quit their jobs to sit around and live off her money.

Sure, she had money now, but did they think it just fell from the sky?

Why did everyone else's parents provide them with resources and a platform, while her parents just leeched off her?

"I don't want it."

"Just have a sip. Mom made it especially for you," Isabella wheedled, pushing the glass closer.

"I said, I don't want it." Whitney shoved her mother's arm away.

Isabella was already leaning over and off-balance. Even though Whitney hadn't pushed hard, Isabella lost her grip on the glass with a gasp.

Half the orange liquid splashed onto the newly purchased rug, and the other half splattered directly onto the delicate hem of the expensive cosplay dress Whitney had just laid out.

To ensure her videos looked high quality, Whitney bought premium, delicate fabrics.

Seeing the juice soak into the pale pink skirt, Whitney lost her mind. "Mom, look what you just did!"

"Oh no!"

*I told you to rest, so you just rest? I don't see you listening to anything else I say!* she thought bitterly.

Whitney pressed her lips together. "Just get out. I need to do my homework."

Isabella nodded, picking up the ruined dress from the floor. "I'll go wash this for you."

Whitney didn't say another word.

Once Isabella closed the door behind her, the bedroom fell into dead silence.

It was the master bedroom, featuring a massive floor-to-ceiling window, a princess bed, a plush pink rug, and a crystal chandelier. It was exactly the kind of room Whitney had always dreamed of.

The window was slightly open, and a cool breeze drifted in.

Whitney felt her heart turn just as cold.
