Her Hidden Hero from the Unwritten Page novel Chapter 14

Winona was speechless for a long time.

It turned out, he was just starved for love. As long as someone showed him a sliver of kindness, even with an ulterior motive, he grabbed onto it like a lifeline, terrified to let go.

Winona’s eyes stung slightly. She pressed her lips tightly together. "Got it."

After they finished their surprisingly harmonious lunch, Caleb rubbed his nose. "Seth, are you heading home, or coming with us to play pool?"

"Pool," Seth replied.

Whenever there was a day off, he usually stayed out playing until dark before finally going back.

Even though there were four people in their family, the house was never lively.

Winona sighed in regret. "I have to go back and do my homework. I haven't even touched my weekend assignments yet."

Tomorrow was Monday, after all.

The colorful entourage chimed in unison, "Bye, Winona!"

They watched as Winona climbed into a ride-share car. Once she was gone, the boys could finally spill all the questions they had been holding back.

"Seth, is Winona really your biological sister?"

Seth gave a distracted nod. "Yeah."

Caleb asked, "So is she in high school right now? Which one?"

Seth kicked him. "Why do you talk so much?"

Caleb let out a goofy laugh. His over-bleached red hair stuck out wildly. He had overly long bangs and a large dark birthmark on his forehead.

"I was just asking! Winona is awesome. She's literally the first girl who's ever been nice to me."

Seth ran his tongue over his teeth. "That private high school behind ours."

"What?" The surrounding boys widened their eyes in awe.

And Physics... that was a lost cause. She basically guessed the multiple-choice questions and prayed. Scoring a forty was a miracle for her.

Plus, it had been years since she graduated high school. She had long given all her knowledge back to her teachers.

After happily breezing through the English worksheet, Winona took a deep breath and pulled out her Math paper.

Several seconds later, she took another deep breath and decided to tackle Chemistry first.

She pulled out the Chemistry sheet. It looked like ancient hieroglyphics.

Winona closed her eyes. Her hands were visibly trembling as she held the paper.

The current curriculum had phased out the strict arts-versus-sciences split in favor of advanced electives. Which brought her back to the main question: What kind of delusion had possessed her to choose pure STEM courses back then?

It was all Herbert's fault!

Winona struggled to open her eyes and face reality. She put the paper down and picked up the last worksheet—Physics—staring at it blankly.
