Winona said, "Excuse me."
Caleb snapped out of it and quickly stepped aside.
The moment she saw Winona, Whitney completely forgot her confusion.
Whitney’s family background was actually incredibly average; her parents ran a struggling fruit stand. The wealthy heiress persona she currently maintained was partly funded by her summer social media income.
But the vast majority of it came straight from Seth, her ultimate cash cow. The designer dress she was wearing was Seth’s birthday gift to her, and even this entire banquet was being charged to his tab.
Very few people at Lakeside High knew Seth came from serious wealth. Even Whitney had only figured out he was rich based on the lavish gifts he constantly bought her. But she could never have imagined that Seth belonged to a top-tier old-money family residing in the legendary Luna Bay Villa, a family that wielded genuine power in the city’s upper echelons. That kind of elite circle was far beyond her reach.
Furthermore, Seth never acted rich. He wore cheap clothes, ate at street stalls, and carried absolutely zero arrogance.
But Winona was entirely different. She had been born a pampered, untouchable golden girl, and everything from her clothes to her demeanor screamed extravagance. Even with her long hair hanging loosely, it caught the light perfectly, looking significantly more vibrant and expensive than anyone else’s. Her bone structure and features were absolutely flawless. With minimal makeup, her casual, dismissive gaze radiated an overwhelmingly obvious, unbothered arrogance.
Whitney couldn't even maintain her smile anymore; aggressive alarm bells started ringing in her head.
Who was this girl? Was she one of Seth's suitors?
She clenched her fists tight.
"Seth." Winona stepped forward and grabbed Seth’s arm, forcing him to let go of Jonathan’s collar.
Someone who is entirely used to fighting his battles alone finds it incredibly difficult to suddenly display vulnerability or complain.
Seeing him completely paralyzed, Winona didn't bother waiting. She turned her gaze to Jonathan, looking him up and down. As his face steadily burned bright red under her scrutiny, she finally spoke, "Do you mind explaining what exactly is going on here?"
Jonathan was incredibly nervous and instinctively pushed up his glasses. Meeting Winona’s piercing eyes for a split second, his own eyes immediately darted away behind his thick lenses. "Seth has a one-sided crush on our classmate, Whitney Harper. Today is Whitney’s birthday, and Seth showed up completely uninvited. After being asked to leave, he waited out in the hallway until the party ended."
"I believe this is a form of unethical pressure that places intense psychological stress on a girl. Instead of putting on this show of devotion, he should be spending his time studying. After all, he is dead last in our grade and constantly drags down the entire class average."
"I was simply offering him a bit of advice, and he exploded in humiliation."
