Helena knew she didn't actually have a fever.
It was entirely a side effect of the Anxiety Medication she had taken.
She had deliberately upped the dosage, causing her body to physically crash.
That was what triggered the extreme heat.
If she went to the hospital, the doctors would figure it out instantly.
And if they knew, Sebastian would know.
Julian would also get the news.
She refused to invite that kind of trouble into her life.
Beyond that, she possessed a deep-rooted aversion to hospitals.
She had spent far too much time trapped in them in the past.
If she could avoid going, she would.
In that regard, she was exactly like Skye.
There was no reasoning with her.
"Helena!" Sebastian snapped, glaring down at her.
"I said I'm not going. Take me back!" she demanded bluntly.
If he didn't stop the car, she was fully prepared to jump.
When her stubborn streak flared up, absolutely no one could stop her.
She had always been this way.
Once she made up her mind, she wouldn't back down, even if it cost her her life.
In the past, even when he repeatedly promised she could walk away free if she just refused to confess, she hadn't turned back.
And she was even more unyielding now.
Sebastian's frown deepened. "You are going to the hospital right now."
This time, she didn't even bother arguing. Her hand shot toward the door handle, ready to throw it open.
He caught the movement out of the corner of his eye.
He slammed on the brakes.
His expression darkened with absolute fury.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he demanded, biting off every word.
His rage was palpable, a volatile storm barely held in check.
The main roads in Coralia were notoriously narrow to begin with.
With a car abruptly stopped in the middle of the lane, traffic quickly gridlocked.
Moments later, The Police approached their window. "Sir, you can't park here."
The officer suddenly recognized the two of them and froze in shock.
Sebastian recovered smoothly. "My apologies. It's my fault. I'll move right away."
He didn't say another word, shooting her a dark, warning glare.
He restarted the engine and pulled forward.
The traffic slowly began to clear up.
Helena looked entirely unbothered.
She simply sat there, waiting for her next chance to reject the hospital trip.
"If you won't go to the hospital, where exactly do you expect to go?" he finally relented.
She closed her eyes, taking her time to answer.
Her head still spun, but she already felt marginally better than before.
The medication's peak effect was starting to wear off.
