Sebastian's confused frown actually made Skye cover her mouth and giggle.
"That's just to mess with him! Sometimes I tell people Helena is my mommy. So that makes him my uncle," Skye explained, bobbing her head cheerfully.
"What exactly is Lance's relationship with Helena?" Sebastian homed in on the most crucial detail.
Skye blinked, looking at him with total innocence. "He's her older brother, obviously. Why else would I call him uncle?"
"Helena is a member of the Everett family?" Sebastian frowned again.
In an instant, his previous suspicions were completely scrambled.
If his gut instinct had been right, Helena was actually his former wife.
But if Helena was truly an Everett, how could she have ever ended up in such a miserable, dead-end situation back then?
The Everett family would never have just stood by and watched.
Yet Sebastian also knew with absolute certainty that Skye wouldn't lie to him.
Viewed through that lens, it suddenly made perfect sense why Helena had married Julian.
A strategic marriage between the Everetts and the Campbells was entirely logical.
But when all the disparate pieces were stacked together, new seeds of doubt began to sprout.
"I see," Sebastian said, nodding with a faint smile.
Skye cheerfully babbled on, sharing a few more details about the Everetts and Helena.
From what Sebastian could gather, Helena's relationship with the Everett family seemed rather distant.
Helena was supposedly the daughter of Ivy Everett.
Sebastian quietly absorbed the information.
He didn't know much about the inner workings of the Everett family.
But the nuggets of intel Skye just casually handed over completely shattered his current roadblock.
He had just found a brand-new angle of approach.
It was as if confirming her ties to the Everetts was the missing puzzle piece.
Everything about her that had previously been shrouded in mystery suddenly cleared up.
Skye trailed obediently right by his side.
A nearby employee couldn't help but comment, "Your daughter is absolutely beautiful. Her nose and mouth are identical to yours, right down to the placement of her dimples."
It wasn't just one person saying it; it was everyone who saw them together.
After hearing it so often, Sebastian had genuinely started to believe it himself.
To make matters worse, Skye nodded proudly. "Well, he is my dad, after all."
Sebastian's gaze settled quietly on her, though he didn't correct her.
Skye looked up at him sweetly. "Daddy, can I get some potato chips and yogurt?"
She quickly tacked on, "Helena loves chips too. She likes the lime-flavored ones. I'll grab some for her."
"Alright," Sebastian chuckled.
After paying for the groceries, the two of them headed back to the apartment.
The moment Sebastian pushed the front door open, he was met with the sight of Helena rushing out of the bedroom in a sheer panic.
