Sebastian looked down at the electronic lock and smoothly punched in the code.
He certainly hadn't gotten the password from Helena.
Sebastian had guessed it.
The code was Skye's birthday.
The moment the apartment door clicked open, Sebastian stepped inside without making a sound.
He immediately spotted Helena, curled up and fast asleep against her knees.
She hadn't even noticed his arrival.
Without a word, Sebastian walked toward her.
He scooped her up into his arms effortlessly.
Helena seemed a bit dazed, instinctively tilting her head to look up at him.
"Julian, why are you back so soon?" She was so out of it that she completely failed to realize the man holding her was Sebastian.
She just fluttered her eyes open for a split second before her lashes fluttered shut again.
She looked completely exhausted.
Sebastian merely let out a low hum of acknowledgment, choosing not to correct her.
"Go to sleep," he murmured softly.
"Oh..." Helena mumbled, perfectly compliant and docile.
Sebastian carried her straight toward the master bedroom.
But the moment he walked in, his gaze landed on Julian's clothes folded neatly beside Helena's.
He saw the framed photo of the two of them on the nightstand.
And the unmistakable scatter of Julian's personal belongings throughout the room.
Sebastian's gaze turned somber.
In the very next second, he spun on his heel and walked right back out.
Helena didn't react at all; she was simply too drained.
Combined with the lingering effects of her anxiety medication, she was completely knocked out.
Because she had rarely taken any medication over the past couple of years, the heavy dose left her in a deep, unbreakable slumber.
Sebastian carried her all the way back to his own apartment.
When he finally laid her down on the mattress, Helena just rolled over with a soft sigh and fell right back asleep.
Sebastian looked down at her, naturally pulling the covers up over her shoulders.
Perhaps sensing his touch, Helena stirred.
And if she had, Sebastian wouldn't have had any leverage over her at all.
Yet, listening to Helena's chaotic, feverish protests, it sounded as if she hated him to her very core.
As if she couldn't even escape him in her nightmares.
Despite the revelation, Sebastian kept his features perfectly masked.
Eventually, Helena settled back into a quiet sleep.
"So, Lena... is it really you?" Sebastian's voice was barely a breath.
Helena didn't hear him.
She was lost in her dreams.
Sebastian didn't say anything else, finally straightening up and walking away.
Just as he stepped out of the master bedroom, his phone buzzed.
It was a call from Skye.
Sebastian answered it immediately.
"Sebastian, it's me..." Skye's soft voice drifted through the speaker, laced with a hint of grievance.
"Where did Helena go? I called her, but she didn't answer. You're the only one I could call. When I stay with her, she's supposed to pick me up herself... we don't have a driver," Skye pouted.
