He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 833

"Ah, no, I can eat by myself."

Scarlett snapped out of her daze, a soft smile tugging at the corners of her lips. She picked up her fork and took a bite of the chicken Julian had placed on her plate.

She had to admit, Julian was an exceptional cook.

The Coca-Cola Glazed Chicken Wings were cooked to perfection—tender and deeply flavorful.

"Julian," Scarlett began between bites, unable to hold back her curiosity, "did you take cooking classes before?"

Julian glanced up, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "No. I learned from watching videos."

"Then how are you so good at it?" Scarlett asked, surprised.

Julian set down his silverware and wiped his hands with a napkin. He spoke with a casualness that made it sound like the most ordinary thing in the world.

"Because you and Dawn are here. I couldn't let you live off takeout."

Scarlett froze.

Looking at his earnest expression, she suddenly realized he wasn't joking.

He was genuinely putting his heart into taking care of them, treating their daily needs as his utmost priority.

"Julian..." Her voice trembled slightly. "You don't have to do all this. I can't just comfortably sit back and let you wait on me. This should be a two-way street, not like this."

He looked at her, his eyes carrying a mix of helplessness and deep affection.

"Scarlett, I told you I'd make sure you never have to worry about a thing."

"Taking care of you and Dawn isn't a 'don't have to' situation. It's a 'must do.'"

"Aside from our regular work right now, making sure you two are comfortable is one of my main responsibilities."

"I don't see it as a burden. If anything, it's an honor."

Something slammed hard against her chest—a wave of warmth mingled with an aching sweetness.

She lowered her head to hide the swelling emotions in her eyes and silently took another bite of food.

After dinner, Julian started clearing the table. Scarlett offered to help but was promptly shut down again.

With no other choice, she took Dawn to the living room to play with some blocks.

It didn't take long for Dawn to tire herself out. She leaned against Scarlett's chest and fell fast asleep.

Holding her daughter on the sofa, Scarlett quietly watched Julian moving about in the kitchen. The scene felt incredibly domestic and grounding.

It was truly miraculous.

Not long ago, she believed she would never fall in love again, that she would never start a new chapter with anyone.

But a series of unexpected events had pushed her and Julian forward, leading them inexplicably to this exact moment.

Sometimes, emotions couldn't be controlled by logic.

Like a seed, it had quietly taken root when she wasn't looking, eventually growing into a towering tree.
