But Eleanor's health was incredibly fragile; the shock would undoubtedly cause her to pass out.
She forced all those overwhelming emotions back down. "No, Eleanor. I'm running a studio right now. It's just getting off the ground, but things will only get better from here."
Eleanor finally smiled. "I called Alistair and asked him to come over and keep you company. You young people probably have more to talk about anyway, and he can keep an eye on your leg."
Juniper desperately wanted to decline, but a sudden realization made her press her lips together and stay silent.
Alistair arrived at noon, bringing a bouquet of flowers with him.
For years, Eleanor had rarely invited Alistair to the estate; both had always maintained polite boundaries. Alistair would only call on holidays to send his regards, but they never really discussed their personal lives.
Now that Eleanor had suddenly summoned him, it was clear she was genuinely trying to play matchmaker.
Alistair knew it, and Juniper knew it.
Eleanor tactfully left them alone, claiming she was going upstairs to read.
Juniper and Alistair sat in the courtyard, looking at each other in silence.
But Alistair wasn't the type to let awkwardness linger. He didn't bring up the internet drama; instead, he casually mentioned seeing a patient in the hospital who had been poisoned by wild mushrooms. This smoothly transitioned into a question for Juniper. "When you lived in the countryside, did you go foraging for mushrooms in the mountains during this season?"
With the current weather, wild mushrooms would definitely be sprouting.
Juniper's eyes immediately curved into a smile. "Yes, but I only recognized one kind. They were yellow and smelled amazing, usually growing under pine trees. If you go up the mountain around this time, the ground is completely soaked, so it's best to wear tall rubber boots."
Alistair casually poured her a cup of tea. "I've never been foraging before; I've always been too busy. If I ever find the time, would you be willing to take me? Maybe we'll even have a medical outreach program in Oakley later."
Juniper's fingers instantly curled inward, perfectly understanding the implication behind Alistair's words.
