He Gave Me Hearing, Then Taught Me What Silence Really Means novel Chapter 110

Nelson was a bastard.

The absolute worst bastard on earth.

When she woke up, her leg felt significantly better. The sharp, stabbing pain was entirely gone.

She quickly checked her phone and saw several missed calls from the police station.

She dialed back immediately.

"Ms. Lane, we have a solid lead. By tomorrow at the latest, we'll have the complete, unedited footage."

Juniper let out a long breath of relief, a small smile finally touching her lips. "Thank you."

The officer was equally perplexed. The cameras in that specific area had been thoroughly wiped—how had a copy suddenly surfaced?

But that wasn't their concern. Juniper was the victim, and their job was to secure the evidence she needed.

Juniper ordered breakfast to her room. Since stepping outside was out of the question right now, she decided to take advantage of the forced isolation to properly rest her leg.

She also packaged up her broken custom hearing aid and shipped it to the manufacturer to see if it could be salvaged.

She had gotten it repaired there once before, and she was deeply attached to it. She just couldn't bear to let it go.

The package was intercepted by the same technician who had handled her repair years ago. He vividly remembered her and the tiny note she had included back then.

He gave her a call.

"It can be fixed, but it'll take a few days before I can ship it back. Honestly, June, I have to ask—are you having a hard time letting go of the device, or the person who gave it to you? You're incredibly sentimental."

The hearing aid had been meticulously cared for. For it to survive ten years in such good condition was rare.

His words felt like a knife twisting into her chest, sending a jolt of pain through her entire body.

*Wren? What is twenty-five-year-old Juniper doing right now?*

She was hurting. She was heartbroken.

Growing up wasn't nearly as beautiful as she had imagined, and being with Nelson certainly wasn't the fairy tale she had dreamed of.

Her throat burned with unshed tears as she remembered her younger self—secretly falling in love but too cowardly and deeply insecure to act on it, terrified of taking advantage of Nelson's wealth. She remembered the girl who used to fall asleep clutching a pile of cheap, handmade trinkets.

Her karma hadn't just arrived; she had been living it for years.
