Lydia walked away, a faint, satisfied smile touching her lips.

She took her time strolling back to Josie's hospital room. Nelson was still there, dutifully looking after the little girl.

He grabbed a tissue and gently wiped the sweat from Josie's forehead. Josie clung to his hand. "Daddy."

She was incredibly attached to him.

Watching the scene, Lydia walked over slowly and took Josie's other hand.

To anyone looking, they appeared to be a picture-perfect family.

But Josie instinctively avoided Lydia's gaze, tightening her grip on Nelson instead. "Daddy..."

Ever since they returned to the country, Nelson had noticed that Josie was becoming increasingly sensitive, acting much more timid and cautious than before.

He frowned, brushing her bangs aside. "What's wrong?"

Josie swallowed hard. She didn't dare speak. The fever was making her feel awful.

Her eyes grew red-rimmed, and she shook her head. "Can you just stay here with me, Daddy?"

Lydia sighed. "Your daddy is very busy, Sweetie. He doesn't have a lot of free time. You need to be a good girl and take your medicine so you can get better."

Josie lowered her head and gave a tiny nod.

Nelson gently patted the top of the little girl's head. "Go to sleep."

It was then that Lydia noticed the dried blood beneath his hairline. "You're hurt?" she asked softly. "I'll call a doctor in to patch that up."

He remained seated, keeping his hand wrapped around Josie's.

A doctor arrived and cleaned his wound. Fortunately, it wasn't a deep cut. He had bled a little, but a quick disinfection was enough.

Lydia desperately wanted to ask how it happened, but she didn't need to guess. It definitely had something to do with Juniper.

She pulled out her phone and sent a message to Yvonne.
