Chapter 98

It melted through something within me because he made sense. He was just trying to communicate. But then I wasn’t going to label myself as the bad guy because he didn’t present things like this yesterday.

“And yesterday,” he continued now, his voice now lighter, “did not seem like the right time to explain that you have life problems. You already appear to be dealing with a lof so there was no need.”

“Hey!” I said with a frown.

A small smirk touched his lips before disappearing. He was taunting me.

“I don’t have life problems,” I muttered.

“That what you said.”

“It was an exxagerated slip.”

“I’m sure it was.”

The conversation died there.

A moment later, he reached beside him and handed me something. “I found this on my door,” he said. “It was falling off.”

I took it, looked down, and immediately wished I hadn’t. The math competition poster: slightly crumpled, desperate in a way that made me uncomfortable.

“Your attendance matters. Support your school. And help these poor participants who are going through a lot.”

I felt weak instantly.

That lecturer had been the one who had designed this. I had just thought it was the conventional math competition poster so I hadn’t really sampled it. Hence this was the first time I was taking my time to read what was actually written.

My goodness.

I stared at it for a second, then folded it and shoved it into my bag.

We didn’t speak again. There was no need to. With this, he had already won the last argument and any future one.

When we got to school, I stepped out quickly. “I’ll be in the library today,” I said, already walking away.

He didn’t respond That was fine. It was better that way. Probably.

As I moved through campus, I started hearing it. At first, it was just one conversation, then another, then another.

…Mabel’s party next Tuesday-
