He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 76

Chapter 76

[Daisy’s POV)

I shouldn’t have told him where I was.

That thought came to me exactly three seconds after I hit send.

“I’m coming.”

I stared at my phone like I could undo it if I stared hard enough.

Nope.

“Why did you just freeze up like that?” Aria asked, mid-bite, watching me like I had just glitched.

“I didn’t freeze up,” I said.

“You stopped chewing.”

I paused.

Okay. Fair.

I forced myself to chew again.

“Everything okay?” she asked further.

“Yeah,” I said quickly. “Everything’s fine. Completely fine.”

Which would have been more believable if I wasn’t suddenly struggling to swallow a sandwich I had been enjoying two seconds ago.

DeLuca coming here wasn’t an issue but then the fact that Aria was here meant that she’d caught a glimpse of our weird

relationship and I didn’t want to do anything to creep out the new friend I just made.

I reached for my drink, took a sip, and started to think for what to do..

Tell her DeLuca is coming?

No.

Explain who DeLuca is?

Absolutely not.

Sit here and let him walk in?

That’s how all this goes sideways because DeLuca won’t hold his tongue back because someone else is here.

I swallowed and made a different decision.

1 rose to my feet then. “I have to go,” I said.

Aria blinked. “Right now?”

“Yes. I just- I remembered something.”

“What?”

“…something at home. Domestic responsibility.”

Smooth. Very convincing.

With this, I stared and Aria studied me for a second, then shrugged easily. “Okay. I was about to leave too anyway.”

Relief.
