Chapter 53
“Oh my God,” she said slowly.
That tone.
I already didn’t like where this was going.
“You’re seeing someone.”
I stared at her.
“What? No.” I responded, but it came out distracted. Uncommitted. Weak… which was a mistake, because Lillian’s face lit up! had just confirmed everything.
“I knew it,” she said, pointing at me like she’d just solved a mystery. “I knew it!”
“It isn’t-”
“I hope you’re having a good time,” she continued, already moving past my attempted clarification. “And I hope you introduce him to me soon because-”
She paused, her phone buzzing.
“Oh, hold on.”
She glanced at the screen, then waved a hand dismissively at me. “We’re not done with this conversation.”
Then she walked off, already answering the call. And just like that, I was alone again. Except not really.
Because my thoughts were louder than anything Lillian had just said.
“A man,” I muttered to myself, letting out a dry laugh. “Yeah. Sure.”
Except that she was right; in a way.
A man.
Just not the kind you casually introduce to your roommate over snacks and poor decisions.
I exhaled slowly and reached for my phone, turning my data back on.
Mistake.
Immediate mistake.
Notifications flooded in almost instantly. Messages. Posts. Mentions.
I opened one. Then another.
Then another.
And the more I saw, the worse it got.
“Heir to DeLuca Holdings spotted at Westbridge University.”
“Adrian DeLuca officially enrolls…”
“Campus goes wild over transfer student…”
I froze and stared in complete horror.
What?
I kept scrolling now, my eyes scanning faster, trying to keep up with the flood of information.
