He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 23

Chapter 23

(Daisy’s POV)

Okay.

Plan.

Find DeLuca. Thank him and have a positive conversation. Simple.

I stepped out of my room with that exact level of confidence, which was to say- not much, but enough to keep my legs moving.

My first stop was the main space, the one with his chair.

Because of course he had a chair; a very specific and odd-looking chair. A this-is-where-l-sit-and-control-things chair.

It was empty so I moved on to the next stop.

The meeting room, the same one I had had the ketchup presentation in the other day. I pushed the door open slightly and peeked inside. Empty.

I stepped back out and closed the door quietly, my brain already moving ahead.

Okay. Where else would he be?

Anywhere, honestly- this house is huge.

Just then, I heard voices and I turned my head slightly and caught sight of a few men gathered not too far off, talking in low tones. I hesitated for a second, then walked toward them.

And then I saw him.

Fritzo.

He spotted me and glared at me for which I just made a 360 turn. I was not emotionally equipped for round two.

I made it a few steps before nearly walking straight into someone.

I stopped short.

“Sorry-”

The man barely reacted.

“Do you know where DeLuca is?” I asked quickly, before I could lose momentum.

He shrugged slightly. “I don’t know. But he’s around.” He responded.

Helpful.

“But don’t bother him.” He added, giving me a dirty look before he continued away muttering to himself. “I don’t even know why we let you roam.”

With all intense self-control, I ignored the comment and went on and it took some more turns before I saw it.

The balcony.

The doors were slightly open, letting in a cool breeze that felt… different from the rest of the house. I slowed as I approached.
