Chapter 147
Chapter 79 – Fault Lines
(Daisy’s POV)
– Four Days Later –
I had successfully intercepted Archer downstairs before he could come upstairs and accidentally walk into the dashing disrupter currently living in my apartment.
Which was good.
Necessary, even.
Because for some reason I did not fully understand, I had not wanted Archer and DeLuca meeting.
At all.
Not even in the casual “hey man” type of way men did. And honestly? I could not explain why.
Maybe because my life already looked like a badly organized reality show.
Maybe because Archer was becoming popular frighteningly fast and I had already learned from DeLuca what happened when people noticed you around men they considered public property.
Or maybe because something inside me had reacted instinctively the moment I saw Archer downstairs that evening.
Like no.
Not this.
Not now.
Either way, I had gone down, talked to him for a bit, thanked him for coming, and somehow managed to convince him to leave.
Though even afterward, I had sat on my bed thinking about how strange the entire thing was.
Because who actually did that?
Who, after two days of knowing someone, drives to their apartment building just to make sure they got home safely?
Nonetheless. It had been… nice.
Suspiciously nice. But maybe Archer was simply one of those naturally kind people.
Which honestly sounded broad. But possible.
Still, after that night, I had decided distance was smarter.
So the next morning, I also did not wait for DeLuca’s car.
I left before him, Walked to school myself… and walked back too.
When I got home later that evening, he arrived not long after and stopped in front of me with this controlled expression that already told me he was irritated before he even spoke.
“You didn’t wait.”
I had looked up from my laptop.
“I didn’t feel like it.”
He stared at me for a second after that.
Not angry exactly. But definitely not pleased.
And I had expected another argument, expected him to say something sharp.
Instead, he said nothing at all and walked away. Which somehow bothered me a bit.
The next day, I did the same thing.
Left early.
Walked.
Came back alone.
School had turned louder by then. Everyone was talking about the championship nonstop. Jerseys. Predictions. Rival schools. Practice footage. Betting pools that definitely felt illegal.
I mostly ignored it.
